The Stars Are Right At Last...
Twenty years have passed since the ancient war between the Great Old Ones and their bitter enemies swept Owen Merrill away from the world he thought he inhabited. As a seventh-degree initiate in the Starry Wisdom Church, he knows that the time is close when Great Cthulhu will awaken in his temple-tomb in drowned R’lyeh and end that war once and for all. Neither he nor any of the servants of the Great Old Ones is prepared, however, for the last desperate counterstroke of the Radiance—the unleashing of the Color out of Space, an alien form of matter that can end all life on Earth.
As the final conflict looms, Owen flings himself on a last desperate quest to stop the descent of the Color out of Space. His journey will take him from the ruins of a New Jersey college town to a long-forgotten stair descending into a Virginia graveyard, and then to the Dreamlands and beyond. Helping him are a renegade Radiance negation team commander, a sorcerer out of archaic legend, the youngest of the Great Old Ones, and his own witch-daughter Asenath, but against him stands the massed might of the Radiance, a being of the outer voids summoned by the enemies of the Great Old Ones, and the Color out of Space itself...

Date: 2019-10-08 10:30 pm (UTC)Does it matter where I read the shagoth concerto in relation to the main series and, in universe, when does it take place relative to the rest?
Many thanks
Re: Lots to look forward to
Date: 2019-10-08 11:45 pm (UTC)The Shoggoth Concerto takes place over the school year before the events of The Weird of Hali: Dreamlands, with a little overlap in the last chapter. You don't need to know anything of the events of the Weird to follow the story, though. The sequel, The Nyogtha Variations, takes place over the fall, winter, and spring before The Weird of Hali: Providence, and there are more shared characters, but here again, you don't need to know the other books to follow it.
Looking forward to it!

What kind of world do we live in where MARINES can’t yell at each other?
(General Nuisance and his staff are shaking their heads and laughing at the article...)

(Now all we have to do is figure out: is Fantasyland where General Nuisance lives, or is it where WE live? 😄😳)

(Article has a couple of un-Druidly words in it.)
This article reminds me of the lady who got her 15 minutes of fame by crawling around on her hands and knees meowing and insisting she was a cat. Not one reporter asked the only relevant question: “Do you use a toilet or a litter box?”

JA-IN
Date: 2019-10-12 06:11 pm (UTC)JA + NEIN = JAIN
And it's exactly how I feel about the last book in the series - yes I want to read it so much, but not really because then it means it's over!!!
And for the first time the ebook is available before the print version!!! Yes!!! Nooooooo! ok, too late, already bought it and started it -
Thank you
(yes I know many don't approve of ebooks, but it's a Kobo and it makes it easier and a bit cheaper if you're short of funds)

Date: 2019-10-14 03:54 am (UTC)Best. Apocalypse. Ever.
Date: 2019-10-14 02:34 am (UTC)I felt a love and appreciation for the source material that many modern Mythos writers don't seem to have.
(As an aside, when [spoiler] and his teacher showed up in your imagination space, did they reveal any long-lost lore of the OG Druids while they hung around? ;-) )
Re: Best. Apocalypse. Ever.
Date: 2019-10-14 03:58 am (UTC)As for [spoiler], no, he was just as cagy with me as with my characters. About the only thing I got was that the Druids were indeed descended from Atlantean priesthoods and, before then, from Hyperborea -- and I'd pretty much figured that out already!
Someday -- I don't know how soon, and it may be a while -- I'd like to do a novel about [spoiler], probably in the first person. Whether it'll be the tentacular version or not is an interesting question, and one I can't begin to answer at the moment.
