The Shoggoth Concerto takes place over the school year before the events of The Weird of Hali: Dreamlands, with a little overlap in the last chapter. You don't need to know anything of the events of the Weird to follow the story, though. The sequel, The Nyogtha Variations, takes place over the fall, winter, and spring before The Weird of Hali: Providence, and there are more shared characters, but here again, you don't need to know the other books to follow it.
