Well, that was an entertainment I didn't need.  As I think most of you are aware by now, I'm relocating, and going through the usual shuffle of changing phone and internet providers. Here in Rhode Island, my service was via Cox, and I made the mistake of giving them advance warning about shutting off service, via an online chat today.  I asked them to shut things down on Jan 30, but they proceeded to shut down my internet and phone service the moment the chat was finished. Attempts to make contact with them got exactly nowhere.

Two comments for the moment:

First, for the next few days I'll have very limited access to the internet. I'll be online to put through comments once a day or so.

Second, I don't recommend Cox as an internet provider. Their customer service is very poor and their service in general is shoddy.  Almost any other firm would be a better option. Just saying...

I'll have more connectivity later this week and will be settling into my new digs next week. Stay tuned!

Scheduling disconnects of any service provider is always a risky thing.

A client of mine encountered similar, where they at least had it happen on the days originally scheduled, totally ignoring the delay notice when the next service hit snags in its installation. Still almost 2 full business days of no email with their clients and contractors. We so changed how we handle internet connectivity since then.

Passing word around as a reminder of the order of things that helps avoid such trip ups.

Actually didn't know.

I hope the rest of your move goes more smoothly.
Curious where and why. I'm sure it will be revealed in due time. If it hasn't already. I mostly read the main blog, not here at dreamwidth.

That's par for the course for a telecomm. I wish you smooth sailing here on out.

Do we get to guess how many boxes of books you have? I'd say over 100.

I've been experiencing that things are falling apart really fast now. You were probably communicating with a bot which did what it did because it hasn't been trained in nuance. That sort of thing has cost me over $6000 and there is no one willing or able to give a shale. Even though I am not close enough to high population areas be able to just go out and get things, and have come to rely on online ordering to buy special stuff and have it delivered, I have decided that a series of gross failures in the logistics of delivery are making this almost untenable. From now on if I have to I will demand that they use the Post Office. Oh the irony.

Moving woes

I have had nothing but trouble with cox. They tried to double bill me numerous times. I don't usually rip anyone off as a matter of principle, but I'm quite proud of the fact that I dealt with their attempt to fleece me by walking away from a large unpaid bill. To be fair, I paid the legitimate amount we agreed to, I just walked away from their attempt at ripping me off.

Best of luck moving. I know it can be one of the most stressful life activities. I'm happy I wont ever have to do that again, barring an actual disaster. Is it alright if I pray to Mercury for a swift and trouble free move?

Care to share where you'll be heading to? Still staying on the east coast, or are you moving further inland?

When I moved recently, my choice of internet provider came down to:

1) a notoriously bad cable internet provider (the name rhymes with "bombast)" and
2) a newer fiber internet provider that cost slightly more

I chose the second, and have no regrets. A recent trouble call was handled quickly and conscientiously. I hope you have a similar choice in your new location.

An entire Magick Monday was stolen by Cox. Would it be ok for you to swap this lost MM on some other day?

JMG institution, or institutionalised JMG

I was just sipping coffee and thinking, actually for not the first time, how Magic Mondays and other JMG posts are a staple of my week. To the extend, that I once even got annoyed when there was a delay. That got promptly sorted out by a short contemplation on the theme of gratitude.

T'is a phenomenon, or an institution I think.
Or we got domesticated. :-D

I sincerely hope

Clarke aka Gwydion here
I appreciate the enormous effort involved in moving, as so many things are involved, and not just external obstacles. Clearing the spiritual detritus from your new place and possibly whatever arises in your mind, there, is also a chore. Foundations are important. Just want to say that interacting with you and the commentariat here and on your other sites gives me a little taste of sanity. Your hiatus just happens to be taking place while the world has gone more nutso than usual, or so it seems. It's probably good to be falling back on my own resources for dealing with that. Wishing you accomplishment of actual serenity, as needed. Internet providers? Faugh! A rough topic. Hope the snowstorm of the century doesn't make life too strange for you.

Hi JMG!

I've been away from both Ecosophia's after the Ecosophian Convention - so only saw this... for some reason I thought you might end up moving to the UK : P

By the way, was or is there any way to catch up with some of the attendees (I though there was going to be a mailing list or something)?

How can we convince you to come back ?

All the best with your move!

Check to see if you would have coverage where you end up. The equipment is not outrageously expensive and depending on what you were paying, the monthly may not be a big increase.

The female-fronted band "Heart" does a great cover of the Battle of Evermore.

I know you don't do video, but this is just a concert film. Turn off the screen if you like.
