Three New Books Forthcoming

Despite the various complexities of the last little while, I've been writing; more to the point, my publishers haven't been sleeping on the job. Aeon Books thus has no fewer than three new titles on their way to print, and ready for preorders. First out of the gate, due out in September of this year, is The Life Force Workbook, the third in the series of workbooks published for students of the Golden Section Fellowship (but also useful to students of any Western occult tradition. This one focuses on the etheric plane, and provides a great deal of detailed instruction in the theory and practice of etheric occultism. It can be preordered here, and you can get a 20% discount with the code LFW20.
Second is the new edition of The Ceremony of the Grail, my exploration of the Grail legends, their roots in Gnostic tradition, their role in the genesis ot Freemasonry, and the survival of the ritual at their heart into modern times. It will be out in October; it can be preordered here, and the code for the 20% discount is COG20. 
The third is the revised edition of my wry classic Apocalypse Not. This was originally written in the runup to the great non-event of December 21, 2012, in an attempt to let at least a few people know that the whole business was simply the latest rehash of one of history's all-time bad ideas: the Apocalypse Meme, as I term it in the book. 2012 has come and gone but plenty of people remain convinced that the world has got to end sometime soon so that they don't have to deal with the consequences of their own actions. This new edition may be no more successful at reaching the true believers than the earlier version was, but it may help insulate the rest of us from that particular form of craziness. It will be out in November; it can be preordered here, and the discount code is APOCALYPSE20. It pushes the fantasy that the world as we know it will end suddenly, in some emotionally satisfying way, to show the Bad People™ how bad they are, to pat the Good People™ on the head and show them how right they were, or both. Once you hear that, you know that it's all empty fantasy.)

Date: 2026-02-01 09:15 pm (UTC)I wanted to thank with all my heart for making these series, I been doing the work of the GSF for 3 years now, I am at the stage of working the elements again for the second year, and the method outline in all of your books (meditation, Scrying, SOP and divination) it produces real results if you put the effort.
I been studying the occult most of my life close to 60 now, but this seemingly simple framework of training is the one to truly started to open my inner worlds, and has made my life infinitely more interesting.(your experiment is a success at least for me).
I was thinking that this style of flexible and personal occult training makes it a living tradition that will keep evolving, instead of some of the schools that end up dogmatic and in stagnation?
I have a 2 small questions the angels used in the 4 element book, do youn know the origen? Are they a construct from the golden Dawn? I am asking because I had very good success invoking them.
And second question I believe you said that this upcoming book will be the last one for the series, but if you can squeeze one more (working the planets) will be fantastic, if not it will be left to us and that is also a good thing.

1) Yes, they're from the Golden Dawn papers, by way of my teacher John Gilbert.
2) It's left to you. One of the points of that second book is precisely that it gives you a template you can use to work out a cycle of practice for any other set of symbols -- for example, the planets, the signs of the zodiac, or what have you. This is where the creative side of occultism comes in.

Life force workbook
Date: 2026-02-02 09:59 am (UTC)Related to thinking about the spaces between breaths and that the body breathes because we are alive - the etheric life force body's effect on the physical is that it causes it to function and 'breath' - so in many ways focussing on the physical breath is not necessarily where the 'real action' is at - it is good, but it feels as if there are further possibilities that I can't quite put into words yet.
What I've been puzzling over is this: If the etheric body is the life force body that animates the physical, after the first and second deaths (adios physical and etheric), what powers the astral body when the life force body is no more and what is the relationship between the astral and the mental sheath and whether, in addition to the methods you've described to encourage development of the mental body, the life force body could also be used in that work (mental body) while we are still alive?
In some ways we might already be doing that via cauldrons exercise etc (the condensing and raising of energy) but I've never come across anything discussing the mechanics and possibilities
Put slightly differently, the etheric powers the physical while we are incarnate, but rather than focus all the etheric energy on keeping the physical alive, is it possible to use the etheric more to assist further? Or is the etheric purely to make the physical function? If so, this raises some interesting thoughts to chew on.
