web designA few days ago I had tea with an old friend who runs a small but successful firm in the occult publishing field. He's pushing seventy, though he's in good health, and the firm has younger people involved and will still be purring away when he's gone. The relevance of his age is that the internet is still mostly a foreign country to him.

Nonetheless he's interested in building a web presence for his firm and its products. The firm already has a more or less functional (if minimal) website, but he's looking at a blog, Patreon and SubscribeStar accounts, and whatever else might help his firm make the transition to the internet age. This is a part time paying gig; he asked me for help finding someone competent to handle this, and so I figured the first thing to do was to ask my commentariat, so that one of my readers can benefit from the opportunity.

My friend needs someone with experience setting up websites, who can build the sites and then run them. If you're interested, you'll need to be able to show me sites you've set up and managed. Please either post something here or send me a private message; I'll screen inquiries and then forward the ones that seem serious to my friend, who will make the decision. Let's make this happen.

Web gig

I could possibly help. I have done this for many people. I’m currently a director of marketing for a company in Santa Barbara, but for many years I worked as a one man marketing agency.

I recently health Jaime Paul Lamb set up a course on his website for his astrology program. I believe you know him, he’s the one that turned me onto your work.

Please reply and then I can send you some samples. My email is cortisloukes@me.com

I will give a recommendation to Cortis, not on web design or dev, but as an astrology student at FOA. He is diligent, asks good questions, and is a self-starter.

These qualities also work great in a web designer / developer.

Jen H, aka EsmeWe - Teacher at FOA and a Web Dev

(p.s. Cortis did not ask me to say this at all, I just saw the post recognized his name and replied.)

Location? Location always matters.

Where about are they?
From the business perspective, location still matters, with some and growing challenges doing such work across borders. From experience, I don't engage clients outside of Canada anymore without some strong justification. The IRS can be a real pain to deal with, even before the current administration kicked in.

I am actually looking for a part-time job now that I am taking a break from the industry so I would be interested.

I am an engineer that worked 8 years doing software engineering at a mayor technology company in Seattle, so my area of expertise is on the engineering side, but part of the job also included setting up sites and small systems for my team to share the work with other people via a website so I am familiar with design principles and technologies. I can't show them however because they are internal, but I am attaching a working sample blog site I just put up as well as the site of the fraternity I am am part of that I help in making web learning tools for the enrolled students. My skills for that include knowledge in handling the ready-made tools like WordPress, Squarespace, etc, as well as the more technical side of web development; I also know how to handle the tools used for making content and analyzing the engagement of "social-media outreach" and "community management".

Site: https://circulo-dorado.org/
Simple blog website: https://seabass-carrot-stlc.squarespace.com/ (since it is on the free tier, it asks for a "password", but it doesn't protect anything, it is 'occultpublisher'. It has an about and contact pages, as well as the blog.
