junkedSeveral of you noticed that my main blog, ecosophia.net, was offline for a little while and still has some hiccups. I'm in the process of transferring it to a new host, and the usual e-hiccups have occurred. The new hosting firm assures me that everything should be up and running again shortly. If anything untoward happens, I'll post here.

In the meantime, welcome to the Long Descent. ;-)

Yep. If you haven't already collapsed to avoid the rush, you can count on being a hurtin' unit in the not-to-distant future.

JMG - I'm glad it's just the usual e-stumbles. I came to see why the open post had disappeared, hoping this was all it was. Long Descent indeed - but these machines are going to bring us to the Star Trek future dontcha know. And for an added bit of amusement, before I could log in and post this I had to recreate my log-in on Dreamwidth, which had just vanished, apparently. ;-)

Oh my gosh! I have said it many times, people seem to think we will get self driving cars, general AI, helper robots and everything computer utopia any day now... but these tings still cannot do spell check properly or not just fall over flat day dreaming when you move a file somewhere.

thank you!

I am sure the proper offering to Mercury, Uranus and The Crawling Chaos have been made.

Mercury is conjunct both malefics at the moment, if I'm not mistaken, and Uranus is in the anoretic degree of its fall. I think this practically counts as a blessing, given that context!

Right now, when I tried to access the main blog, I get a 403-forbidden error. I think there might be a few more hiccups left...

It is working just fine for me now, so I think whatever was causing the issue was short lived.

Are you trying the .org or the .net address? The .org redirect no longer appears to work.

I didn't even know there was a .org redirect!

Not the OP but I've only ever used the .net address. The last couple of times I changed webhosts, which is some years ago now, there was a warning that it could take a couple of days for the changed nameservers to propagate out, but it never took longer than 48 hours.

"The new hosting firm assures me that everything should be up and running again shortly."

Is that a modern updated and improved version of "The check is in the post' ? ;)

I've lost count of the number of times software and hardware 'improvements and updates' have totally borked machines and software to the extent of having to restore entire disk images.

Referring to edu-tech as an animated corpse (on main blog not posted yet), I was perhaps being unfair and it is like every human problem is a nail that requires the hammer of tech - tulip mania taken further. LLMs = 21st century tulips?

08:30 UTC in UK ecosophia.net is visible but still showing 105 comments

Looked-up ecosophia.net (https://who.is/whois/ecosophia.net), tried the IP address and got this:
***
This is the default server vhost
This site's domain name is either not yet pointed or is still propagating. Propagation may take up to 72 hours. Please check back later.
***

So the old 48 hours has 'improved' to 72 hours - who'd have thought it.

The other links are out of order

I suppose that you know this already but the links from the main blog to all the other side notes such as dreamwith does not work. All those have to be changed.

I know - oh the pain, oh the agony.

Something odd I noticed.

The url of the missing post most likely was, https://ecosophia.net/april-2026-open-post/

The url of the replacement post is, https://ecosophia.net/april-2026-open-post-mark-ii/

If you enter the first url in a browser it redirects to the second url.

My guess is that both the posts are on your new server now, and you may be able to get at both when signed in, in edit mode, but there is a property set the same in both of them that now effectively hides the first post.

That may be enough of a clue to your new hosting service to make the old post visible again.

I don't think this would work, because I don't think it's an actual redirect at work here.

https://ecosophia.net/april redirects us to https://ecosophia.net/april-2018-book-club/

https://ecosophia.net/april-202 redirects us to https://ecosophia.net/april-2020-open-post/

https://ecosophia.net/april-2026 redirects us to the 2026 open post.

It appears that the website is using autocomplete to find a page that starts with the URL entered. I find this mildly troubling given the kinds of issues that autocomplete can cause, but this probably has nothing to do with the missing open post.
