That's one good test. Another is to see how much you identify with your personality. Imagine yourself changing -- or try actually changing -- some of the standard habits of thought and feeling you have. If something normally makes you angry, imagine not getting angry over it, or better still, teach yourself not to get angry about it. If you can do this without any sense that you've changed who you are, you're doing well.
