cometRegular readers here know that I post astrological predictions concerning politics and economics on SubscribeStar and Patreon, and every so often post something that can be read by anyone. The more experimental a post, the more likely it is to be open for the public, and the one I've just put up -- well, it's about as experimental as they come.

It used to be quite common to interpret comets as significant omens in mundane astrology. Unfortunately very little material seems to have survived on how this was done. I've gathered together what I could find, in Ramesey's 1653 classic Astrologia Restaurata and a few other sources, and given it a shot using the recent Comet Tsushinchan-Atlas as a test case.

Maybe it's just me, but I tend to think that the most important of the various purposes of astrology is accurate prediction, and the only way to see what works is to give it a try. You can find my tentative conclusions here on SubscribeStar and here on Patreon. Over the next two years, we should see just how accurate these conclusions turn out to be, and then put the results to work the next time a comet comes through.

Spoiler alert: comets, according to astrological tradition, are always bad news. This one isn't as bad as some, mostly because it was relatively small and wasn't visible for that long, but it has some unwelcome tidings.

Exactly.

I also saw someone else say in some other forum that this incident is potentially frightening for a class of people who aren't normally afraid of government. The kind of people who don't worry about things like drug raids on the wrong house or random stop-and-frisk or other forms of government abuse because those things happen in other types of neighborhoods to other types of people. But this incident is the sort of thing that could happen to "nice" people in a "nice" neighborhoods. If some busybody can sic government goons on you for rescuing two injured wild animals even as you're trying to do it legally, then what next? Will the government come after you because somebody you don't get along with has reported you for being a "hoarder" because you have six rescued cats? Or because the obnoxious neighbor you have a dispute with reported a "vicious dog" because you have a high-strung animal that barks a lot and nipped at someone when they entered your yard without permission? Or because some bored busybody claimed that the grow lights visible in your window are obviously for marijuana when it's just an exotic orchid collection? Will this bring the government down on the homes of "nice people"? Etc.

Not only that, but there is this idea that if the authorities are coming for cute little things can morph in various phobias in the subconscious.

That may explain people having dreams like these:

I had this really weird dream that Kathy Hochul wasn't just personally ordering two small animals to be seized and killed, she was letting all noncompliant New Yorkers know that she can - and most likely, will - do the exact same thing to their kids.

Man - my dreams get pretty crazy sometimes.
