Essene logoIt's time to move on to the Master Healer grade, the third and highest grade of the Modern Order of Essenes. We have a lot of material to cover, so hang on.

Two notes before we proceed. First, I've already heard from several people who want to receive the Apprentice attunement and didn't have the chance to do so the first time I gave it. If you're interested in this, please let me know soonest, and I'll start the process of scheduling a time.

Second, I've mentioned this before but it bears repeating. You do not have to receive any of the Essene attunements to do the practices or the healing work. The attunements help; like other initiations, they speed up the learning process and make it possible for you to hit the ground running -- but if you just start doing the work, within a couple of years of steady pratice you'll be as good at healing as anybody. The healing power of the Divine is everywhere and in all things; never let anybody tell you that you have to go through a ceremony or get some kind of license before you can draw on that power to begin blessing and healing the world.

With that in mind, let's proceed.

Master Essene Healer Study Guide

The training for the third or Master Essene Healer grade of the Modern Order of Essenes involves a great deal of further material. Much of it is based on the Cabalistic Tree of Life, the core symbolic diagram of the Western esoteric tradition. If you have not previously studied the Tree of Life, the lectures on that subject I posted previously as part of the Fellowship of the Hermetic Rose material are a good introduction:

https://ecosophia.dreamwidth.org/172096.html

https://ecosophia.dreamwidth.org/173309.html

https://ecosophia.dreamwidth.org/174122.html

https://ecosophia.dreamwidth.org/175431.html

Once you have familiarized yourself with the Tree of Life, there are ten Cabalistic practices assigned to the Master Healer grade. All candidates are expected to learn and work with these practices before starting the advanced study materials of a Master Essene Healer to follow. For your convenience, here is a list of those practices:

1. Practice One - The World of Air (Thoughts and ideas)

2. Practice Two - The World of Water (Emotions)

3. Practice Three - The Worlds of Fire and Earth

4. Practice Four - Bridge of Love Practice - Part One

5. Practice Five - Bridge of Love Practice - Part Two

6. Practice Six - Establishing the Bridge of Love

7. Practice Seven - Healing Animals, Plants and Minerals

8. Practice Eight - Releasing an Earthbound Spirit

9. Practice Nine - Restoration of a Person, Ego, Soul or Spirit

10. Practice Ten - Spiritual Exorcism

The advanced lessons required of Master Essene Healer candidates are:

1. The Intellectual Complexes

2. The Psychological Complexes

3. The Spiritual Complexes

4. Essene Ear Reflexology

The advanced healing techniques all candidates are expected to learn and work with before becoming attuned as a Master Essene Healer are:

1. The Essene Healing Touch

2. The Essene Healing Voice

3. The Essene Healing Presence

4. The Healing Breath of Love

5. The Essene Astral Blessing Walk

Again, all these practices can be performed by any person who has learned and practiced the material in the previous grades, whether or not that person has had an Essene attunement at any level.  The Essene teachings and methods all rely on the presence of the healing power of the Divine in all of us and in all things; the attunements assist in contacting that healing power and applying it to the work of spiritual healing, but every soul in the Cosmos is always in the presence of the Divine and can call on the Divine for healing at any time.

Essene Healing Breath Meditation

In the Candidate, Apprentice, and Healer grades, instructions are given for step by step development of the Essene healing breath meditation. In John Gilbert’s day, students of the Essene work used to speculate about what the Master Healer level of the healing breath would be like, and John, who had a puckish sense of humor, would feed that with hints now and then. Once students received their Healer attunement, this is what they received:

Phase Four:  Just Meditate

Allow your meditation to flow and go with the flow.  This is the final step and the goal of meditation.  In this state you can heal yourself and others on any level.  Time and space can become immaterial as you enter the state of ascended masters.  This practice by itself doesn't make you an ascended master, but it gives you a glimpse of what you can attain.

The lesson here, as John liked to explain it, is that the real process of learning to meditate begins when you finish learning techniques and start letting the experience of meditation teach you. More broadly, the Master Healer grade is not the end of the learning process but the beginning: once you know the techniques and can practice them, it’s time to let them guide you and help you unfold the healing capacities that you have always had within you.

*  *  *  *  *

Next week I’ll post the first half of the material on the Cabalistic practices. In the meantime, one other set of practices might be worth your attention.

To become an Essene Master Teacher and receive the right and the capacity to pass on Essene attunements to others, you are required to complete the Gnostic Lessons, the training program the Universal Gnostic Church established for its minor orders. I have already posted these in the following lessons of the Fellowship of the Hermetic Rose:

https://ecosophia.dreamwidth.org/196988.html

https://ecosophia.dreamwidth.org/197659.html

https://ecosophia.dreamwidth.org/198549.html

https://ecosophia.dreamwidth.org/200003.html

https://ecosophia.dreamwidth.org/201213.html

https://ecosophia.dreamwidth.org/201837.html

(These contain more than just the Gnostic Lessons; no, you don’t have to study the Kybalion or practice the equinox and solstice rituals.)

Please Note: You do not have to use the Fellowship of the Hermetic Rose temple ritual to establish sacred space for the commitment ceremonies in the Gnostic Lessons. Any method of establishing sacred space you prefer to use is entirely appropriate -- for example, you can do the Essene Sphere of Protection followed by the Essene Healing Breath, and call it good, or you can use any other ritual opening of sacred space. The choice is yours.

If you’ve already done this work, or are doing it, as part of your training in the Fellowship of the Hermetic Rose, you’re good. If you haven’t, and want to become an Essene Master Teacher, this might be a good time to start, as it takes at least six months to complete the Gnostic Lessons—and I’d like to get some other Essene Master Teachers attuned and qualified to pass on the attunements as soon as possible.

Okay, i've read the first two Gnostic Lessons, will be reading the rest on the next days. Just to be sure, i gather we don't need to perform the ceremony of commitment, only the excercises, right?

Also, if for some reason we decide to perform it, it's mandatory to use a Temple working, or is it acceptable to use a Grove? Sorry if it's a dumb question, but i want to be sure.

Thanks,

Guillem.

I've been doing all the apprentice work and very excited to have the opportunity for an attunement. I'm located in AEST time zone - so it would be great if there is a time that works for you which isn't at a terrible hour in Australia.

Whew, you weren't kidding, there's a lot of work packed into this study guide!

Two quick questions, if I may:

1) Does Tree of Spirit (which just arrived the other day!) make a good supplement to these lectures in this context?

2) Perhaps jumping the gun here, but if I am pursuing the Gnostic Lessons while not following the Fellowship of the Hermetic Rose work, is it acceptable to substitute a similar sacred space for Ceremonies of Commitment, such as a Druid Grove? Or should the FHR temple ritual be learned as a minimum?

Thank you again for putting all of this out, the MOE work has already been very helpful to me, and I look forward to finding more ways to make it helpful to others.

Cheers,
Jeff

Hi JMG,
Thanks for putting this material out there. I just received my copy of The Tree of Spirit and I wonder if this book will work for an introduction to the Cabala?

I'm interested in receiving an Apprentice attunement. Thus far I've done Blessing Walks often but not daily and Healing Breaths seldom and badly (the fact that I don't seem to be too good at this helps me want the attunement). Should you confer attunements a month from now, do you think it'd be feasible to begin the Healing Hands, Foot Reflexology, and Muscle Testing tomorrow, 10, and 20 days from now respectively, and go from the GSF SoP's opening and closing to all of it in the same 30 days? (Any time that's in a weekend for me at least 1 month from now would be fine if the above could work.)

In addition to JMG's advice on the healing breath specifically, I thought I'd share a bit of how my experience has gone with the alternatives discussed in previous MOE posts:

1) While working with the MOE work up through last week's Healer attunement, I have kept up a daily practice of discursive meditation as described in the DMH/DH/DA, and that seems to have worked pretty well, even though I wasn't doing the healing breath specifically.

2) To supplement this, I've followed JMG's passing on of John Gilbert's advice to focus more heavily on the relaxation phase, and I've also been paying more attention to my color breathing - basically, I've made sure to spend a minimum of 5-10 minutes of a 20 minute meditation session on relaxation, breathing, and otherwise settling my physical body.

I say this in case it's the "healing breath" part that you're stumbling on rather than "daily meditation" more widely.

Hope this helps,
Jeff

Hi JMG, I been practicing the apprenticeship steps and would like to receive the attunement .
Also I want to thank you for making available John Gilbert 2 books, I already received
“the tree of spirit “ it is such a gem.
It will give me many topics for discursive Meditations.
I have read many books on Tarot but no one has explained so profoundly and yet simple as John Gilbert.
I am sure he was a great person to have a one one conversation.

I'm interested in receiving the apprentice attunement, if the time works out for my schedule, which is often, complicated ;) I hope it works out that I can make the time, but if it doesn't work out, I'll just keep practicing the material.

So far I am up to learning the foot reflexology. I haven't made it to the hand reflexology yet. I'm still learning the foot technique and incorporating it into my routine. As JP Russel noted in a comment, IIRC, I too am adding in the self treatment on my feet after my Do In practice following meditation.

I've been able to keep up with daily blessing walk, hand activation, and the remote healing once to twice daily. I'll take a look at muscle testing next.

Back when their was a decent occult shop in town there was a guy named Blanchard who had gone through all the C.C. Zain material and Church of Light stuff. I was about 22 and had bought a crystal necklace at the time and whenever I wore it I felt really weird. Blanchard used muscle testing on me when holding and not holding the crystal. The muscle testing showed what I'd intuited, that the crystal was having a negative effect on me for whatever reason.

Also, I knew a Baptist lady who worked with my wife for awhile. She and her husband were also into alternative healing, specifically iridology, who they learned from an Amish healer in Indiana. They did some basic iridology work for my wife and I, and muscle testing was a part of that.

All of this is to say, its probably time I added it to my own toolkit!

By way of encouragement, I have found the muscle testing (specifically the interlocking finger method) surprisingly helpful and versatile (well, only surprising because I was a little skeptical at first). One trick I've worked out is to ask "is this oracle well-suited to answer [the question I'm about to ask]?" when I'm asking a new type of question. From this, I've learned that for me, at least, it's not very well-suited to things like "will this or won't this happen?" but it's extremely good at answering things that seem to rely on interpersonal intuitions, things I may have picked up on subconsciously but not consciously realized, and things involving astral/etheric projection (stuff like "is this uneasy feeling coming from that person?"). Also the more obvious Essene-type stuff like "is this food option a healthier choice for me than that one", but that was less surprising to me.

Hope you find it at least as helpful, and enjoy experimenting!
Jeff

Thanks Jeff!

I hadn't thought yet of what I might use Muscle Testing for. But your own example gives some helpful pointers.

I plan on reading that lesson and getting started on it this week.

We'll see how it goes!

Questions about gnostic lessons

Date: 2023-03-10 11:19 pm (UTC)

Thanks a lot for posting a concise overview! You‘re really pushing ahead with warp speed, aren‘t you? ;-)

I have got three questions about the gnostic lessons:

1. If we open the sacred space e.g. with the MOE SOP and Healing Breath, do we just close it informally however we wish? Or is there a recommended way to close it?

2. Is it necessary to use the same name of the divine in the gnostic rituals as in the attunements? I‘ve been calling on the universe in the attunements, but that feels a bit strange in the context of the gnostic rituals, the way they are phrased.

3. Do we need an alb, or will other clothing do?

And if the alb is mandatory, would you happen to have a good alb sewing tutorial for beginners? I recently got a stash of white bedlinens, more than we’ll need during this lifetime, and I suppose some of them could be put to good use in the form of an alb…

Thanks!

Hi John, I'd say Saturday or Sunday mornings are generally good. As the day moves on things such as helping the elders in our lives, or our grandkids start coming into play. Or visiting someone in hospital (now at home, but currently bedridden).

Thank you for organizing putting this and trying to put get it together.

Apprentice Attunement

I'm interested in receiving the apprentice attunement. I've been practising basic discursive meditation on various themes every night, even if I can only fit in 10-15 minutes. I've also been healing myself, my friend and his toddler (the only people I know who would consent to receiving healing) almost every day with occasional gaps, and I can feel the movement of energy in my palms clearly. I've experimented with the foot reflexology, but haven't made a daily habit of it yet. Oh, and I've been blessing everything and every one in sight, and can feel emotional surges and heart flutters on occasion when I do so.

Unfortunately I work every Saturday and Sunday and get home 12hrs later dog tired, but if I have 2 weeks notice I can schedule the day off with my employer.

Hi, JMG:

Thank you for all this information!
I have encountered something in my practice of Essene Healing Hands that I wanted to check with you.

I have for 20+ years been doing several Chinese forms, a couple of times per week, which have the effect of encouraging the flow of chi. You could say they are a type of chi kung.

I started the Essene Healing Hands several months ago, and have been doing them every morning, sending the healing energy to myself and 2-3 other people each time.

In recent weeks I started noticing that as I made each sigil on the palm of my hand, I'd feel a kind of pulse in my lower belly. When I put the Healing Jewels together, there'd be a pleasant thrill or tremor in my lower belly. This gradually got more and more intense until, during a Healing Hands session last weekend, it was so strong that I feared I might be opening some channel up too fast, and might prang myself. I don't want to wind up like those poor souls who dove into kundalini yoga and killed themselves with it.

Am I venturing into risky territory here? Do Essene Healing Hands play OK with Chinese chi work, or should I not mix them?
I recall you mentioning some years ago (I can't find the reference now) that you had mixed some kind of Eastern and Western arts and bunged yourself up thereby.

Thanks a lot,

Cicada Grove

THANK YOU!

I know just the place.
I'll make an appointment with them.

FWIW, I've stopped both practices for a week now, and the odd feelings have pretty much gone away.

Update:
I called the TCM place, and they told me they do herbs and acupuncture only. I looked at the website of the local branch of a TCM college; same thing. They probably don't dare make any more claims than that for fear of the FDA.

I did a web-search for "Kundalini" and found a lot of pages about "Kundalini Awakening". Many of them touted how cosmic your awareness can be after having one, and downplayed the lethal potential of it. Most that I clicked on and read were lists of symptoms of a Kundalini Awakening, only a few of which matched mine.

Out of an (I hope adequate) abundance of caution, I will continue not doing either practice for another couple of weeks, and then venture a try of one of my Chinese forms. No more Essene Healing Hands, I think, unless I find out the coast is clear. The Chinese forms are my first love-- I've been practicing them for 20 years-- so I don't want to lose them. It's a shame about the Essene Healing Hands, though, I was hoping to get good at that.

Today i've started the Cleric practices and i'm rather happy.

I've always known that i was eating too fast, but correcting it was low on my priority list. Now i have a month to focus on that. Isn't it great?

Btw,i'm planing to read the Theogony, but i was wondering if the Principia discordia could possibly qualify?

Thanks,
