druids at stonehengeIt's almost midnight, so we can proceed with a new Magic Monday. Ask me anything about occultism and I'll do my best to answer it. Any question received by midnight Monday Eastern time will get an answer. (Any question received after then will not get an answer, and will more than likely just be deleted.) If you're in a hurry, or suspect you may be the 143,916th person to ask a question, please check out the very rough version 1.0 of The Magic Monday FAQ here.

(No, I haven't run out of occult diagrams to include here, but I decided it was time to shift themes a bit and show some Druids for a change. Yes, those are Druids celebrating at Stonehenge. I've done the same thing at the same place.)

I've had several people ask about tipping me for answers here, and though I certainly don't require that I won't turn it down. You can use the button above to access my online tip jar. If you're interested in political and economic astrology, or simply prefer to use a subscription service to support your favorite authors, you can find my Patreon page here and my SubscribeStar page here.

Bookshop logoI've also had quite a few people over the years ask me where they should buy my books, and here's the answer. Bookshop.org is an alternative online bookstore that supports local bookstores and authors, which a certain other gargantuan corporation doesn't, and I now have a shop there, which you can check out here. Please consider patronizing it if you'd like to purchase any of my books online.

And don't forget to look up your Pangalactic New Age Soul Signature at CosmicOom.com.

With that said, have at it!

Jesus Malverde

I recall a few weeks ago, you mentioned that Santa Muerte isn't the negative or malevolent being that some might imagine. I've since found a decent book that has helped me to start offering devotion to her. The book mentioned another Catholic folk saint, Jesus Malverde. I'm very interested in him and perhaps setting up a shrine to him. Do you happen to know much about him? He's sometimes called the narco saint but I'm going to assume that connection means as little as it does with Santa Muerte. I also welcome any comments from the commentariat about this folk saint, or Santa Muerte.

Best way to get started with Astrology

JMG,

First off, thank you for this forum. Here’s a newbie question I hope isn’t too basic. What’s the best way to start learning astrology? Is there a book or course you would recommend?

Thank you,

Steve C

Is there anything occult to the spontaneous “F--- Joe Biden” chants at sporting events beyond public disdain for his failures? The practice has made it all the way to high school football games in my very backwater corner of Ohio… which seems a bit odd because the cultural norms against strong language and emotional displays are still enforced.
Crowds jeering aren’t particularly worrisome… but… combined with the buckets of unemployed, underemployed, and grey-marketeering testosterone – i.e., white men – making regular and un-self-aware comments that sound distressingly like the complaints and laments of Jim Crow era black men – do you think there might be cause for alarm?
Now, I’m pretty sure I’m frequently the only person for several miles to have a solid academic grounding in African-American literature; yet, I hear people who are supposed to be at the top of the heap wishing for level playing fields, less concern with appearance, and more respect for competence and reliability.
Perhaps Max Sheler’s ressentiment lurks.
Are you and the commentariat noticing what I see?

Affects of Baptism

Date: 2021-10-11 04:14 am (UTC)
From: [personal profile] queenofcups621
Greetings,

Going through magic monday questions last week I came across a post about the person having left the Mormon church and you mentioned that having been Baptized, the person could expect to have lingering energetic ties.
I was born into a Russian Orthodox family and the tradition is to be baptized as a baby. It is believed that you are given you Holy Guardian Angel at that time as well. I no longer practice the Orthodox Christian faith though I have respect for it and my family still does pratice. After about 10 years of being an agnostic I have followed my interests towards the Hermetic Magical Tradition.
1) I'm curious what differences are between having chosen to convert and be baptized consciously into a faith vrs being baptized at birth.
2) Having been baptized and left the faith how does that function for my energetically now and is it an advantage, disadvantage or neutral in regards to developing my magical practice?
3) I have read a bit on Guardian Angels in the Qabalistic context but am mostly familiar with them from the Orthodox Christian context. Are they often associated with baptism of some kind?

Much appreciated!
Be well

LBRP

From: (Anonymous)
Happy Monday!

I've been practicing the LBRP daily for a couple of months now. I've noticed that my heart races at the end after I invoke the archangels. I was wondering if you could explain the effects that the ritual seems to be having on me?

Secondly, it is very hard for me to source occult books 'down under' and can take months for books to arrive (particularly in the current climate). I've started with your three books on the Golden Dawn, but was wondering if there are any other books that you think someone who is serious about studying this path (and is completely new to the occult) should own? I much prefer a hard copy book and would like to start building my library but it is hard to spot the 'trees' in the 'forest' so to speak.

What are some plants you would include in a garden to promote health of mind and spirit?

I am in the planning stage of next years garden, and the mention of angelica a few weeks ago prompted this question. I have decided to devote a portion of the garden over to plants I am not using explicitly as crops. So what are some plants to consider?

Commentariat suggestions requested too!

CGD Druid Grade Pathworkings

Date: 2021-10-11 04:38 am (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
I wanted to double check I understand the ritual for the initial CGD Druid grade pathworkings to Muner.

We're working in the Druid temple with the circle and cross arranged circle above cross, so we open with:

Lesser Summoning Ritual of the Pentagram -> purify/consecrate/circumabulate -> invoke the sun -> Supreme Summoning Ritual of the Pentagram

But then the book says to perform the Calling of Earth. The Bardic grade pathworkings seemed to lump the elemental summoning ritual in with the Calling of Earth, but we've already summoned Earth in the supreme ritual of the pentagram, so do I perform the additional earth elemental ritual of the pentagram or just go straight on to "In the great name Cernunos..." in the north quarter of the ritual space?

In either case, from there I'll need to enter into meditation with color breathing and find myself in the inner grove of earth. Does "establishing myself in the inner grove of earth" include doing the earth elemental ritual of the pentagram in the inner grove of earth or do I just check around the grove for subconscious messages and proceed to call my guide? If I do the inner grove ritual of the pentagram, would I perform it again upon returning to the grove of earth from my pathworking to clean up? I seem to recall we don't banish in the inner groves.

Sphere of Protection

From: [personal profile] australiandreamer
In the Sphere of Protection how important are the vocalised words and the performed actions? If you were tied up and gagged or stuck in a room with some archetypical Inquisitors who would burn you for perceived heresy but you imagined you were doing the actions and saying the words would it still work for you? If you were married to a Puritan who would report you for doing it as written how would you process it?

Is the ‘Sphere of Light’ from ‘Experience of the Inner Worlds’ (Set aside a time and place, free from interruption, where you may, sitting, kneeling or standing as you will, formulate a Sphere of Light about you in the imagination. Then relax your tensions, physical and mental, in the midst of it, breathing regularly and deeply. Put the mind and body at rest – in an attitude of faith, hope, and love of the Creator – who created you) the same thing using a different paradigm or do they do very different things?

Can a person with Bipolar disorder take up the Spiritual Alchemy and Training the will exercises?

I am in my 30s, and I live in a Third world country. I have recently realized that I have Bipolar disorder. The mental health infrastructure in my country is not good. Neither is the level of social acceptance for mental illness. I suffer the most in the depressive phases.

On the bright side, I am quite intelligent, and I have developed a number of coping mechanisms over the years without realizing it. I am very religious, and I follow a somewhat rigid schedule. I avoid sensory overstimulation, and do regular meditation, chanting and idol worship (I am a Hindu). I have a steady, reasonably well-paying job. I am not a danger to myself or others, and I want to keep it that way.

The Training the Will and Order of Spiritual Alchemy look interesting to me, but I am hesitant to take it up because I am wary of making my condition worse. Any advice from JMG, or others with a similar condition?

From: [personal profile] jprussell
Good evening,

Thanks as always for your generosity with your time and thoughtfulness. A few questions and a comment/update tonight:

1. A question on the visualization part of color breathing. For the past few months, I've been visualizing the nwyfre coming into my body through the skin in front the solar plexus, and my results have been a bit disappointing. It occurred to me this week that I might have been doing it wrong, and perhaps I should instead visualize the nwyfre coming in through the nose, down the throat, into the lungs, and then into the solar plexus from there. I've tried this second way and it seems like it might be working better. Is there a more common preferred way, or is this something where experimentation is the answer?

2. Related to the above: I recently had one of those "oh, I've been doing it wrong" experiences when I reviewed the earth gate in the DMH - I had not been visualizing the nwyfre of each gate entering my body through my solar plexus. Since I've started practicing it this way (about a week and a half, now), I've noticed a weaker feeling when I take on the blessings of each element. I have been doing the visualization more like the former above (coming in through the skin on the front of my body, rather than through the lungs). Might this be some kind of blockage? If so, anything to do about it besides keeping up the work?

3. A couple times now during meditation, I have found my muscles getting a bit "jerky" - it's not so dramatic as a "spasm", and it's not like my arms are flinging around, but if I don't tamp it down, my arms and legs move around more than a "twitch". Both times, it has seemed to be associated with thoughts/images of force rising up from the ground, and both times it has been when I've been somewhat tired. Is this something to be worried about, or just a normal growing pain? (If it helps, I've been doing daily discursive meditation with only a handful of missed days since the middle of may, and in the past I've done a variety of mindfulness/breathing focused meditations daily for up to several months, and sitting still is usually not a problem)

4. This may not be precisely a magical question, but after listening to you mention TV on a couple of podcasts, I'm curious: do you believe that the medium of "moving pictures on a screen" is inherently not very worthwhile and/or its potential is played out, or is it more that the cacomagical system that produces pretty much all TV and film results in a bunch of dreck in a medium that might otherwise have potential? For example, if a gifted individual made a film entirely on their own, with no outside control or funding, might that have some artistic/spiritual merit? Or is it that moving, photo-realistic images is inherently bad for the imagination?

5. Not a question, but an occult-adjacent update for anyone interested in old-timey fitness: I've been experimenting with using Indian clubs during the "Daily Dozen" workouts that JMG discovered were ancestral to the workouts he was taught in the uniformed wing of an initiatory order. They turn out to pair very well! I would recommend 1 lb clubs for daily/near daily flexibility and conditioning, though I've also tried out 3 lb clubs, which gives one hell of a workout, especially to your grip and forearms, so likely very useful for anyone working on swordsmanship. (BTW, if you read the last sentence and thought to yourself "3 lbs, are you kidding?", that was my initial reaction - the fact that the weight is off-center from your grip makes a huge difference. I'm no weakling - I can do a handful of pull-ups on gymnastic rings and deadlift 285 lbs ~3 times, and I find it a challenge to complete the Daily Dozen with a 3 lb weight without resting.) If you don't have Indian clubs, I imagine you could get similar benefits from dumbbells with slightly more weight - maybe ~3 lb for minimal extra work and ~5 lb for a real challenge. I'm also working on a few supplements. There's not much emphasis on the legs, which I suspect is an artifact of the exercises being originally developed for the army (where you would be running your tokas off everyday anyway), so you might consider combining with running/biking/squats/deadlifts/leg-workout-of-your-choice for working out your whole body. I'm also experimenting with pairing with some other Indian club movements that have more rotation of the wrists and elbows, as I do a lot of typing and want to keep my hands/wrists healthy. Between (nearly) Daily Dozen working out and (nearly) thrice daily Sun Salutations, I've seen a marked improvement in flexibility, even just over the past few weeks. No updates on the spiritual/energetic side of these workouts just yet, but I'll certainly share if/when I observe any. If you're interested in trying the Daily Dozen, I found the video instructions on this channel the most helpful for learning them: https://www.youtube.com/c/Internalforcefitness/videos

Thanks very much,
Jeff

Magic bathing and such

Date: 2021-10-11 05:38 am (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
Dear JMG,
I have had a cold for a week or so and did not have my normal ice-cold bath in the garden for five days. In that time, I became depressed, insecure, felt isolated and oppressed and then I had the thought that I should just get the Covid shots. A Hoodoo bath certainly cleared that up! Now that I know it is malign magic, I am much better able to shield myself from its effects even though my cold came back and I have had to give up cold baths for the last few days. I just thought I should let everyone know how effective those baths are.

Last night, I got a little drunk and went to bed without doing my usual SOP to clear the bedroom. I couldn't fall asleep and got up at 3 in the morning, much more sober, and performed the SOP. The whole ritual felt unusually strong and at Spirit Above, I felt a heavy pressure and a little pain on my head and my knees started to sway. I felt I was going to pass out (I really was not drunk at that time) so I staggered off to bed and finished the ritual as a visualization. I fell at once into a deep sleep.

Do you have any idea what was going on during that SOP? It was new to my experience.

My Husband has seen his globe of red light a few more times since I last wrote. I asked him if he thought he should try to communicate with it but he said it felt very neutral and he didn't feel it wanted him to do that. He doesn't seem worried by it and he is very sensitive to emotions so I guess it is okay.

Thanks for this forum and all your helpful advice.
Maxine

JMG,

I was going through the Saturn/houses ‘homework’ you gave to me last week, and in the process I learned about intercepted signs/houses for the first time. Suddenly my chart and the problems I have in my life (including the neuroses) started making a *lot* more sense to me.

Just for reference, b/c my chart is weird: all seven of my planets outside of Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are intercepted in the same sign & house.

I already light candles etc for one of my really hard aspected planets, and I’m doing a bit of planetary charity. Could you recommend any sort of course of action beyond this? Obviously I know major workings etc are beyond me still. Would it help to start invoking and meditating on a planet energy for my weekly temple workings?

Hopefully this didn't come off as a total bunny-slope “oh god, I’m doomed” thing, but I'm definitely feeling the pressure a bit.

Cheers,
reid

SoP completed.

I wanted to just say thanks.

I replaced EHEH with LOVE for the last invocation and now it flows. Kind of makes more sense to me. (Though it makes me look like a hippie, at least I'm not saluting with 'Peace').

For the ritual, I chose to call people who I think were masters of the elements:
Albert Einstein for Air. He's the first to come to my mind when I think of intelligence.
Napoléon Bonaparte for Fire. Same for willpower.
Mahatma Gandhi for Water. Same for resilience.
Kung Fuzi for Earth. Same for discipline.
This last one is not a XX century celebrity, but I didn't find so good a match in modern times.

It works well and it should be the only thing that matters. However, yesterday an idea struck me that was bothering me while performing the SoP. Where I live, a mediterranean climate, summer is the harsh season. Except for fruit trees, most vegetable life begins in Automn and dies in Summer. Summer is when we rest for no meaningful work can be done with extreme hot temperatures.
Wouldn't it make more sense to begin with Water and finish with Fire? The biggest mismatch I can think of, is that we don't end the day at noon, and the sun at noon suits Fire very well.

Alas, if it works, don't touch.

Presence with my Daughter

For quite a few years my daughter (middle school age) has occasionally mentioned she feels like "someone is watching her" when clearly there's no 'human person' there. She usually mentioned it when in the backyard and didn't feel in a negative way, and so I didn't worry about it.
Anyway, the other day she mentioned it again, this time said she was really creeped out by it, so I decided to do a banishing (LBRP) in her bedroom just before her bedtime.
I sat and talked with her while going to sleep. After the banishing, she said it felt like it was going away, and instead of feeling like a meter behind her, it now feels like a mile away. I asked again today and same. It's still there but feels like a mile away.
Anyway, I did a shield geomantic divination this morning for "Is there a NHP (Non-Human Person) connected to P?"
I got this chart : https://amissio.net/gen/cgd/85/3d.svg
Not the easiest for me to interpret, but I'd say Yes, likely an ancestor(LW, RW & Judge placed in 4th Triplicity & 3rd Mother), maybe land spirit (Judge also found in 3rd Niece). Someone who's sticking around and not going away (LW & 4thD:Carchar).

What are your thoughts on what this could be, and also help on other divination questions to refine my understanding of what's going on here would be appreciated.

note: I've just started Bard grade of CGD and haven't done anything foolish whilst she was younger to attract unwanted NHP (non-human person) attention.

JMG,

Thanks so much for the opportunity to ask questions!

This is from a total beginner to magic:

I‘m very sensitive to what‘s „in the air“, e.g. other people‘s emotions, general energy of a situation or place, … (I can‘t put this into better words, and I have no clue on which plane this is happening :-) )

Usually I cope quite well (i.e. I can appreciate the positive sides, and know how to manage it so I am rarely overloaded). But in the current times, with all that‘s going on, this is very demanding - frankly, by now, I‘m just bone-deep tired.

Are there any magic rituals or techniques I could safely practice to build up something like a shield?

And on a related note: my partner and kids are equally sensitive. Are there any rituals or techniques I could safely practice which clear or shield a certain space, e.g.a room or maybe even the house, so that they would have some respite, too?

Thanks,

Milkyway

Do you have any updates on the demonic pact origins hypothesis first presented here:
https://ecosophia.dreamwidth.org/145097.html?thread=18149065#cmt18149065
Do you still hold that hypothesis as probable, possible?

On the other hypothesis your lates update to my knowledge puts it at stage 10.

I read with interest your delineation of the upcoming lunar eclipse. When I was looking at this a week or two back, I assumed that the position of the Moon in a specific house would be the defining message of the eclipse rather than the ruler of that house. You didn't seem to take it quite like that, giving perhaps more weight to the (state of the) house ruler. Would you agree with that?

Looking at Europe where I'm based, the eclipsed Moon for most of the continent is firmly in the 5th house. It's in the 5th for London, too, but only just. One of the main signals I'm looking for is where this pandemic is heading as well as the roll-out and possible fall-out of the "vaccines". So with the eclipse in the middle of the 5th, as it is for Berlin, I wouldn't normally think of anything particularly health related as being emphasized. However, in H.S. Green's book, he mentions death from heart disease specifically for the 5th. You didn't actually include this point in your delineation for London, was there a reason for that?

Now, it can't have escaped your attention that there have been people, celebrities and sports stars recently either having heart problems or even dying of a heart attack. The media are doing their best to play it down and of course they avoid any mention of the v-word as being a potential cause. In any case, I think this is really something to watch over the coming months.

Different countries are focused on different organs when it comes to disease. For the British, it as always been the bowels and maintaining good bowel movements. The French are obsessed by the state of their livers and any time they feel unwell they blame it on a crise de foie. For the Germans, however, it is the heart they worry about, so for them this would be their worst nightmare come true.

As your subscriber saw your moon eclipse prediction its grim . I think people should know and should be posted here .

On occult level few weeks ago i had a call similar to the one i felt in November / December last year but this one was more fleshed out like pictures moving in front of my eyes telling me to start hunting those responsible for the vaccines and its mandates . I was riding black horse in it . It dawned on me it was another demonic call i just help the iconography of st george slaying the snake and it was gone poof together with emotions . Is it possible after all this there will be demonic driven hunt of those who started all this?

Last one before i got pregnant the name Simeon popped up in my head is not usual name where i live in Norway nor in my home country . I just thought it was finally the guy who kept me safe telling me his name then even before i get to know the gender i refered to my baby as he all the time . Is it possible he have been introducing himself ?

A question to everybody:

Occasionally, commenters here seem to say that they worship God (in a Christian sense) or Jesus, and at the same time other gods.

Doesn‘t that clash with the Christian doctrine of „you shouldn‘t have any other gods beside me“? How does that fit together?

Asking out of genuine curiosity. :-)

Depends on the tradition you take tbh. The Golden Dawn Tradition and a good chunk of occultism has been practiced and revived by practicing Christians.

Personally I like to honor the roles of other pantheons and what they can offer for me or even teach me about the true message of Christianity, not the sectarian or dogmatist bs. The "no gods before me" bit is honestly a matter of context, and honestly it's a very complex matter to study and explain the nature and identity of a being far far far beyond our current comprehension. In all intents and purposes these gods could very well be fragments, manifestations, or masks of this divine source.

Running

Just an interesting data point - I had a long run in the woods a few weeks ago, and had somewhat exhausted myself by the time I got to a small grove of lime trees on top of a hill. In the clear evening sunshine, dappled by leaves, I did the Jusdon exercise and felt a tingle rush up through me. I then had almost fully recovered my energy, and ran all the way back (though granted, a lot of it was downhill). Just thought it was worth mentioning for any other runners out there!

An odd thing though - in my while hour and a half run, I must have seen about 4 other people. It was a beautiful autumn evening, and it's a popular dog walking woods. Where the hell is everyone...ill?

I recall that you said last week that when we're between lives, we're mostly on the Astral Plane with perhaps a brief episode on the Mental Plane. Where do tend to think that the classic Near-Death Experience takes place? My guess would the Higher Astral Plane, but I thought I might ask you because your guess might possibly be better informed than mine.
