The illustration? One of the two famous drawings from the Aurea Catena Homeri (Golden Chain of Homer) by Anton Josef Kirchweger, one of the last of the red-hot central European alchemists. The two dragons represent the two principles of his alchemy, niter and salr (which of course are not the material substances called by these names) and the metals are shown around a hexagram in the middle.

***Brief Update: er, folks, this is Magic Monday, it's not Ask-Me-Anything Monday. I've had to delete a bunch of questions on things unrelated to occultism. I do an open post on the fourth Wednesday of each month over on my blog for general questions. Thank you for keeping the conversation focused!***
***This Magic Monday is now closed. See you next week!***

Date: 2021-07-19 11:48 pm (UTC)My argument for the 8th had nothing to do with real estate. Having done daily geomancy readings for over a year now, the 8th house only rarely seems to have anything to do with death, magic, or other people’s money (2nd of the 7th). Well, “death” works, but only in the sense of being the ultimate limit. The 8th is more generally the house of limits and loss, which balances the 2nd house’s identity as the house of possession and gain. I believe its traditional relationship to magic and the spirit world come not only from the connection with death, but also from— maybe even primarily from— its meaning of limitations, as magic is the way of willingly guiding the forces of the universe toward particular outcomes rather than just anywhere they would have gone through natural momentum. But for most questions, I find that what appears in the 8th doesn’t have to do with magic, spirits, or death per se, so much as things which are being limited or forced to end in some way.
It would be silly for me to argue that EmmanuelG’s question wasn’t about real estate— and of course it was. What I was suggesting, though, was that the real heart of the question, as it was about loss and crisis, might more properly be considered an 8th house question.
Regardless of your own judgment as to where to assign EmmanuelG’s question. Does my understanding of the 8th house accord with yours, and if not, where in your view should I revise or reconsider?
