creation of the worldIt's getting on for midnight, so we can proceed with a new Magic Monday. Ask me anything about occultism and I'll do my best to answer it. Any question received by midnight Monday Eastern time will get an answer. (Any question received after then will not get an answer, and will likely just be deleted.) If you're in a hurry, or suspect you may be the 143,916th person to ask a question, please check out the very rough version 1.0 of The Magic Monday FAQ here.

I've had several people ask about tipping me for answers here, and though I certainly don't require that I won't turn it down. You can use the button above to access my online tip jar. If you're interested in political and economic astrology, or simply prefer to use a subscription service to support your favorite authors, you can find my Patreon page here and my SubscribeStar page here.

Bookshop logoI've also had quite a few people over the years ask me where they should buy my books, and here's the answer. Bookshop.org is an alternative online bookstore that supports local bookstores and authors, which a certain other gargantuan corporation doesn't, and I now have a shop there, which you can check out here. Please consider patronizing it if you'd like to purchase any of my books online.

And don't forget to look up your Pangalactic New Age Soul Signature at CosmicOom.com.

With that said, have at it!

***This Magic Monday is now closed. See you next week!***

Is irritability and other similar mental states astral wounds? I have seen people under a lot of stress and/or hallucinogenic drugs be very sensitive to astral stimuli and being defensive as if touching a wound. Perhaps things like that harm the aura in a very real sense?

If not ritual magic, are there forms of magic I can practice while being on medication?

If I was able to get off of medication, would ritual magic be able to make up for it?

Etheric body question

JMG:

I've recently had an experience in meditation of a field of undulating cilia extending from my physical body. Is that the etheric body? It was a weird experience.

I think it's media magick. Every day, media consumers are bombarded with "the beatings lockdowns will continue until the morale vaccination rate improves". Read "it's your neighbor's fault that the international crisis continues". This is how authoritarians are made.

I can guess what social class your interlocutors were without a hint of hesitation. I haven't been the subject of too many freakouts because I know who not to bring it up around.

Candle colours

This is Polytheism 101 stuff, but there is now so much contradictory information out there, it would help to know what you recommend and, for pantheons you don't work with, what the most respected sources are.

a) days of the week: yellow for Mercury, pink for Venus, blue for Jupiter, black for Saturn - these all seem familiar - are these also what you would advise? What about for the Moon and Mars? I'm guessing gold for the Sun? But if you only have yellows, not gold available due to using natural beeswax, what is the best way to distinguish Mercury's colours from the Sun's?

b) other Greco-Roman deities, especially Hestia and Athena? (I'd guess that, for example, Poseidon would be blue, Hephaestus red, Demeter and Gaia green and brown?

c) what about the Norse pantheon? It is especially Odin whose colours I would like to check, but if there are Norse pagans reading who can post links to good correspondence tables, that would be very much appreciated.

Concurrently Practicing Multiple Religions

1. Would a full Moon be the best time to place a silver pendant outside to create a protective amulet?

2. The last couple of months, the full Moon occurred on a rainy night in my area. Would all that cold water falling down on the intended amulet prevent it from charging? If so, would placing the pendant in a clear plastic bag or container allow it to absorb the energy of the Moon while rain is falling?

3. Would practicing several religions concurrently be a bad idea? I have taken up the practice of Catholic sacramental magic but I have also recently created an altar to the Vodou lwa and have been serving them, with positive improvements in my life as a result. I have also put together a shrine for the Roman Deities and I will try to venerate and honor them via the praxis of Religio Romana. I devote specific days of the week and month to each religious path, so that I don’t end up overwhelmed by ritual work. Of course, Catholicism and Vodou were, and still are, practiced side by side. I have decided that I don’t want to create single, syncretic rituals as part of my religious practice. If it won’t cause major issues, I would like to pursue each religion/pantheon in their own ways.

Re: On Buying and Selling Souls

I found the contract, and it is far worse than it seemed. I'll give a summary of a few of the more troubling sections of the contract, although really nearly the entire thing is disturbing.

The first reason is the "SALE OF SOUL AGREEMENT", which makes it clear that any being serving in a capacity recognizable as vaguely like a judge may interpret and enforce this contract. Any court, real, imagined, or otherwise has the authority to interpret and enforce this contract. That is a disturbingly broad definition of who has jurisdiction.

Section 4A outlines the use of the soul, and includes a number of options explicitly stated which are profoundly troubling. 4C and D make it clear that attempts to reclaim the soul are superseded by the terms of the contract, which again, may be interpreted by any being claiming authority to be a judge.

Section 4J expressly permits Liminal to transfer any rights she has to anyone at anytime, for any length of time.

Section 5C states that the parties will refuse to recognize any jurisdiction which attempts to invalidate any part of the contract, unless it can prove it has sole authority to rule on the question of soul ownership.

Sections 5G and 5H make it clear that no matter how bad this gets, the contract remains binding.

Section 6D requires the buyer's free consent, and not the seller's for changes, which means that coercion used against the seller is only forbidden to the extent it would be forbidden within whatever jurisdiction ends up interpreting this. Since we have no idea which afterlife entities will rule on it, given the earlier statement any being sitting in a "court" can interpret this, this is a major risk.

yoga and chakras

- Continuing the theme of being cautious about combining some Eastern spiritual practices with Western occultism, what is known about the compatibility with non-asana yoga practices, such as pranayama and mudras?

- Is there a way to safely combine chakra meditations with Western occultism?
Over ten years ago I did some chakra meditations, concentrating on each for several weeks or months until I felt some blockage move, and the next chakra become important, and I was in effect interrupted for years by powerful developments in my life. (At that point, I had not done pagan rituals for some years.) These could be seen as things I needed to experience to develop the feelings and traits associated with that chakra.
Clearly if the effects were so big as I moved upwards through the sequence, it is something to be cautious with, but I find I feel interested in chakra work again, and I am wondering whether I should be careful with it or steer clear of it altogether because I follow druid and occult practises, and not only because of what happened. I have had some very positive change in my life since starting the latter.

Hello JMG,
Thanks as always for hosting this space.

1. I remember a while back you referred to a particular authors research dealing with near death / post death experiences. Could you remind me his name and is there a book of his in particular that you would consider a good starting off point?

2. Any recommendations for a knife for clearing off astral parasites? Need it be brand new?

Hi JMG,

I recently ordered some frankincense and I plan on burning it while praying to various gods/goddesses. I'm a bit worried about this though because I've never prayed to pagan gods before and I don't want to accidentally offend them. For example, if I ask a god for guidance and strength should I provide an extra offering or is the frankincense enough?

About the Red and White Dragon currents as secondary currents of the solar and telluric currents: I can't find the reference in the DMH so perhaps I read it elsewhere on a past Magic Monday, but I thought that one of the dragon currents also corresponds to mountains and the other to valleys.

Would one of the dragon currents be related to the mountain ridgelines that are often of great importance in Chinese landscape painting, and the other to the thalweg, the route of fastest flowing water in rivers?

Hello JMG.

I recently started doing the SOP to the Archangels, Mary and Jesus after doing some divination with the Rider-Waite tarot regarding which gods to change to from the elemental SOP. After reading your comments about Waite in your post 'The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic' regarding Waite trying to convince people that Christian orthodoxy was the one true path and previous comments that each divination system has its own character I am wondering - is the Rider-Waite tarot likely to be biased in favour of Christianity?

Whilst doing this SOP I had an experience the first time I invoked St Michael. Whilst invoking him I was wondering if I would be able to feel a friendly presence as I did when I did the LBRP for a while before the SOP. I didn't feel anything, and thought "maybe he's there but I just can't sense him". I was holding out my right hand when I thought this and immediately energy shot up my fingers into my hand. I took this to mean YES. Do you think this is probably right?

Does doing the angelic SOP with Mary and Jesus commit me to Christianity? I am just feeling my way and currently quite unsure about my path.

Many thanks for all you do.

Haha I'd have thought I'd have picked up on them by now, I've done it so many times I've performed it (literally) in my sleep! I guess I have the rest of my life to figure it out :)

I'm not inclined to think malice is involved... yet...
