no paypalI think most people know at this point that PayPal has just given itself the right to fine anyone who uses its services $2500.00 any time it decides that the user has engaged in "the promotion of hate, violence, racial or other forms of intolerance that is discriminatory" -- that's a verbatim quote from the acceptable use policy on the PayPal website. Since those words "hate" and "intolerance" have been flung around very loosely in recent years, and effectively mean whatever PayPal wants them to mean, it simply isn't viable any more for anyone who disagrees with the party line of the corporate media to keep uisng PayPal, and I've begun the process of transitioning away from it -- not least so that people who donate to the tip jar here and on my blog don't have to worry about being socked with fines if some post of mine attracts the ire of the corporate-bureaucratic state's thought police.

Being sixty years old and more than a little of a Luddite, I'm not exactly net-savvy, so I'm not too familiar with the alternatives. I also have a commentariat that includes people well informed about just about any subject you care to name, no matter how outré. So it occurs to me to toss the question to my readers. Have you used a PayPal alternative, and if so, what did you think of it?

I probably ought to mention a couple of restrictions:
  • I can't use any of the alternatives that are purely smartphone apps. My only phone is a land line.
  • I'm not interested in the alternatives that use cryptocurrency. I don't do crypto.
  • I need something that's set up for individual use rather than strictly as a business setup for vendors. I'm not a vendor.

With that in mind, I'd be interested to hear your experiences.
