flying rollsGriefs happen but the work goes on, and part of that work is the ongoing recovery of the occult traditions of the Western world. A significant step in that direction has just seen print courtesy of scholar and mage Samuel Scarborough and the good people of Kerubim Press in Ireland -- longtime readers may know the latter as the publishers of the fine occult journal The Light Extended.

The phrase "flying rolls" inevitably conjures up images of cafeteria food fights in the modern imagination, but that was the label for the occasional papers circulated by the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn for the benefit of its initiates. Up to now, students of the Golden Dawn system have had to make do with a very partial selection of these papers -- some of them included in Israel Regardie's sprawling The Golden Dawn, others in a useful but incomplete collection, Astral Projection, Ritual Magic, and Alchemy, edited by Francis King.

Now the complete collection is in print, complete with a solid introduction and detailed and highly useful notes. I would gladly have given my eye teeth for this volume back when I was doing Golden Dawn work as my primary esoteric practice; as it is, I'm very glad to have it. If you're interested, copies can be ordered by way of the Kerubim Press website.
