CPUP logoPandemic or no pandemic, life goes on, and for me that involves a certain number of podcasts. This time I'm on the Center for Progressive Urban Politics podcast with hosts Kevin Lynn and Steve Lamb, discussing the current coronavirus outbreak, the upcoming election, and much more. Check it out on YouTube here

JMG,

a solid interview! I find it slightly ironic that you participate in podcasts named The Center for Progressive Urban Politics, since you don't believe in Progress, but its good to talk to people across the aisle.

There's a content producer that I really enjoy, he's a 26yo streamer (he plays videogames on livestreams) who discusses politics from a far left standpoint. He often debates far right figures, and he is quite good at it in my opinion.

Your writing and his videos make about 80% of the content I watch on the internet.

I have asked him on his opinion on the issue of peak oil, and he told me he was aware of the gravity of the situation, but the community around him do not seem to really know about the issue. I asked him today if he'd welcome you to have a discussion, and he answered that in inviting people to talk he is interested in furthering his goals as a leftist.

I wonder if you'd be interested to have a conversation with him in a similar tune to your "open letter to the activist community". A sort of meeting point between a progressive like him and an if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it-conservative like yourself (that's how I've come to synthesize Burkean Conservatism. Please correct me if I'm wrong).

I truly believe that the progressive left could use some sobering up and this could help do that. Would you be interested in doing that?

His name is Vaush, if you wanna check him out, though you'll probably find his video content uninteresting.

I wouldn't appear on Vaush's streams if I were you. He's intelligent but unfortunately he's dishonest in the extreme and is all about one-upmanship.

I generally would advice against talking to video game streamers as I don't think that the audience would be receptive to your message.

I must second that sentiment. From what I've seen, it seems like Vaush is a hardcore communist ideologue and thus prone to use all sorts of intellectually-dishonest rhetoric and other flavors of dodgy mental gymnastics to try and one-up his interlocutor.

Styxhexenhammer666 (Tarl Warwick) would be a better choice. (His YouTube username no doubt sets off alarm bells but he hasn't been a Satanist for a long time.) He's a nature-loving pagan who makes a living editing and re-printing old occult works in the public domain. His political commentary was what got him noticed, he was one of a handful of people predicting Trump would win in 2016. His content lately has been subpar, even for him, so he'd benefit from having a interesting guest and you'd benefit from his sizable audience.

It sounded more like and episode of Progressives For Trump. Amazing how quickly the shift can happen.

Interesting as always. Just an addendum to the topic, there was an item
on the local news the other night. There's been an abrupt increase in the
number of women coming direct from New York City going to hospitals in southern New Hampshire to have their babies. I'm guessing more likely from the upper crust, not the lower classes as it's at least a four hour drive from there to here.

The Center's logo appears to have been inspired by something in Tristram Shandy.

I may be wrong, but I believe it's loosely based on Transition Towns artwork

Tristram Shandy, the first modernist novel. Far ahead of its time.

This "technical difficulty" has wiped out a sizable chunk of the counter culture on YouTube. I suspect there's more to it than we're being told....

What else is gone? Has it wiped out the counter culture where it specifically deals with covid-19?

I suppose this could be part of an attempt to crack down on covid-19 misinformation (if interpreted generously).

Twitter are certainly "disappearing" tweets and blocking accounts that refer to the Covid virus, and it may be that Youtube have adopted a similar dredging approach to any videos that have it in the title or description.

Therefore the removal of any reference to covid in the title and description to this video might do the trick.

As of 11:28am on 4/10/2020, the video is still marked as private. Definitely not a "technical issue". But it worked; I give up trying to view it.
