Magic Monday
May. 10th, 2026 10:25 pm
It's a little before midnight and so it's time to launch a new Magic Monday. Ask me anything about occultism, and with certain exceptions noted below, any question received by midnight Monday Eastern time will get an answer. Please note: Any question or comment received after that point will not get an answer, and in fact will not be put through. If you're in a hurry, or suspect you may be the 341,928th person to ask a question, please check out the very rough version 1.3 of The Magic Monday FAQ here. Also: I will not be putting through or answering any more questions about practicing magic around children. I've answered those in simple declarative sentences in the FAQ. If you read the FAQ and don't think your question has been answered, read it again. If that doesn't help, consider remedial reading classes; yes, it really is as simple and straightforward as the FAQ says. And further: I've decided that questions about getting goodies from spirits are also permanently off topic here. The point of occultism is to develop your own capacities, not to try to bully or wheedle other beings into doing things for you. I've discussed this in a post on my blog.
(The quote? I've finished the sequence of my published books; while I decide what I want to do next, I have some memes to share.)
Buy Me A Coffee
Ko-Fi
I've had several people ask about tipping me for answers here, and though I certainly don't require that I won't turn it down. You can use either of the links above to access my online tip jar; Buymeacoffee is good for small tips, Ko-Fi is better for larger ones. (I used to use PayPal but they developed an allergy to free speech, so I've developed an allergy to them.) If you're interested in political and economic astrology, or simply prefer to use a subscription service to support your favorite authors, you can find my Patreon page here and my SubscribeStar page here.
I've also had quite a few people over the years ask me where they should buy my books, and here's the answer. Bookshop.org is an alternative online bookstore that supports local bookstores and authors, which a certain gargantuan corporation doesn't, and I have a shop there, which you can check out here. Please consider patronizing it if you'd like to purchase any of my books online. And don't forget to look up your Pangalactic New Age Soul Signature at CosmicOom.com.
***This Magic Monday is now closed and no more comments will be put through. See you next week!***
music, video, trance, hypnosis: good sources?
Date: 2026-05-11 04:34 am (UTC)A request for the commentariat generally:
I'm exploring the topic of what certain kinds of music and flashy-lights entertainment do to us, how they function, on multiple levels, whether that's groups making music together or the piped-in grocery store oldies rotation, the effect that video has on us with and without music, the effects of flickering lights generally... particularly when it comes to states of consciousness, synchronization (social, spiritual, energetic, brainwaves...)-- trying to feel out the edges of a couple of questions. 1) What is the primal human function of these things (music, dance, telling stories around the fire), and 2) What are the implications of the way we engage with these things now?
Not asking for answers to those questions here, obviously. That's a dissertation! But y'all are sometimes a great crowd for interesting sources: Any recommendations for things to read on this topic? Studies, books, articles... ?
I'm starting from a piece recommended here some time back, asserting that group dance and music serve the function of synchronizing tribal groups so that they can work together as a unit. I'm looking to broaden that and explore how it relates to modern tech-saturated life.

2 - Is there a rite for beginners to invoke Pan included in The Goat-Foot God? I've written instructions... looks like, but I might be imposing my usual templates...
3 - Is there any astrological significance to this year being a good one for meteor shower watchers?
4 - Given that there are good astronomical look-up tools available, how important is the first sighting by a person?

Date: 2026-05-11 04:48 am (UTC)2) Beginners have no business invoking Pan, or for that matter doing any sort of major ritual. Learn the basics before you try for the heights and depths!
3) Not in the sources available to me.
4) The first naked-eye appearance of a comet matters, as does the last; generally, though, it's not that important.

Date: 2026-05-11 05:34 am (UTC)1. Both in discursive meditation and tarot reading I can run into difficulties translating my sense of the subject at hand into language. Actually, this can happen in daily interactions too.
I think it is related to how readily I will just sit and be present with no internal dialogue. Still quite aware just not inquiring verbally.
Sometimes it feels like I rock my body to process instead of engaging internal dialogue stuff. Heck I am rocking right now as I compose this comment!
What I have started doing is asking sensory questions like, “What am I seeing?”
Often a few of those will help get things going. Definitely helping with Tarot and discursive meditation.
What do you think is going on here?
2. In the last few months I have started being able to get more than 5 hours of sleep! Often 7 or 8. Yay for herbs!
After a short 3 week break from SOP and divination, starting up the full DA SOP has been delightful.
Seems the sleep and the break from practice are opening a fresh experience.
You have mentioned sleep before and I am wondering if it isn’t a much bigger deal than many realize? For a number of reasons, too?
How do you see occultists being impacted by lack of sleep?
3. Related, my dream life is back in full force! Was a long sleepless 15 years!
I am working on incorporating dreaming back into my practices as I did so many years ago with Castaneda’s books.
This time I am taking a different perspective and found an interesting book titled The Tibetan Yogas of Dream & Sleep.
I am not aware of conflicts between dream practice and the DA, for now. Any cautions or integration tips with the DA would be appreciated.
4. This might be way out there. Do you know if ninja training materials included development of occult-like or non physical capabilities?
Thank you for your time and insights.

Date: 2026-05-11 05:13 pm (UTC)2) Lack of sleep affects almost everyone these days, and causes far more trouble than most people realize. I've come to think that most psychological conditions can be benefited considerably by making sure you get at least six or seven hours daily. (That works even if it has to be broken up; I don't sleep well at night these days, for example, so daytime naps are a regular practice.)
3) You're in territory that, as far as I know, hasn't been explored yet. Take detailed notes on your experiences and let other Dolmen Arch practitioners know what happens.
4) Yes, and weirdly enough this is something I know a fair amount about. Like most koryu (classical Japanese martial arts), ninjutsu was affiliated with a religious tradition, the way that some classical sword styles had Shinto affiliations and others had strong connections to certain schools of Zen. In the case of ninjutsu, though, it was esoteric Buddhism of the Shingon or Tendai schools, generally filtered through yamabushi mountain ascetic traditions. The kuji-in practice, which is basically the Japanese equivalent of the SoP, was the foundation of a whole series of practices drawn from esoteric Buddhist sources, in which mantras, mudras, mandalas, deity visualizations, and the whole panoply of East Asian occult practices feature extensively. Paranormal capacities were much cultivated during the heyday of ninjutsu, for practical reasons; magical invisibility (which is simply a matter of blurring other people's minds so they don't notice you) was obviously important. One fairly well documented school also focused much of its training on attaining shinshin shingan, "the eyes and mind of god," a heightened state of intuitive awareness in which an opponent's moves would be known before the opponent himself thought of them.
Generally speaking there's a vast amount of magic and esoteric spirituality all through the older Japanese martial arts, though most modern Japanese arts have little or none of it and the versions passed on to this side of the ocean have even less. It's really quite unfortunate that so much has been lost; I still cling to a fond hope that somebody will get to work translating classic Japanese occult texts into English...

Date: 2026-05-11 07:07 am (UTC)For a long time I've had a solid never miss practice of a daily tarot reading, meditation, and added the SOP a few months back. The banishing is a game changer and clearing up astral static (as you have said) is an understatement. I wish I had done it long ago.
What do people who have very few desires, but a serious lifetime interest in magic/meditation/occult practices work towards? I guess you could say I'm tracking towards "enlightenment, but have been a MM reader long enough to know about not getting hung up on whatever that means. I have wondered what the word could refer to from a young age, and did note working through the Occult Philosophy Workbook its association with the mental plane, and it being the summit of occult study and practice.
Could any of your other non-druid books suit someone on the narrow path who wants to take their daily practices up a notch or two beyond the basic three things you recommend? Did Eliphas Levi say something to the effect of a good person for practicing magic is someone that doesn't want anything? I have done a Ton of journaling on "what do you want" and related in addition to quite a bit of work with the Octogon Society.

Date: 2026-05-11 07:35 am (UTC)I have a couple of CGD Serpent's Egg questions.
1. I ran out of mullein tincture with a round to go of moistening the mullein ash. I'm 99% prepared to make more tincture (plus it's fun!) but the 1% of me wonders what would happen if I went ahead and made the egg with four lots of ash moistened three times but one lot only twice. Given the mullein corresponded to Fire, would my future workings when wearing it be weaker regarding Fire/generally unbalanced?
2. Can I keep the egg (wrapped in silk) in the sickle's box (sourcing has been tricky and I may have to get a large box) or do they need to be separate?
With my thanks for your generous time and wisdom.

'The Goat Food God'
Date: 2026-05-11 08:03 am (UTC)After seeing several mentions of Dion Fortune's 'The Goat Food God' we ordered a copy and I'm just getting started on it. It's good, immediately engaging, and I like her style. It reminds of both Graham Greene's style, in his 'entertainment' novels (thinking especially of 'Travels With My Aunt'), and Saki. I want to know what happens next, always a good response to a new book. Can't say any more than that as Earthworm hasn't read it yet.

Date: 2026-05-11 08:56 am (UTC)I hope I'm not too off topic here, since my knowledge on Magic and misticism is very low.
This question is probably too local, space restricted to Spain, and to a fringe theme that affects me personally, so if this is too off topic, feel free to delete/forget this.
It is about giftedness. I'm father and husband of gifted girls, and currently my daughter is bordering depression due the treatment received from her former public schools (changed to a private school successfully, first step that bringt her out of where she was). It was, in fact, institutional bullying to her for the fact of having requested specific teaching.
The issue is that we detected a month or so ago, a direct and synchronized attac from public instances and not so public, gubernamental aligned instances. I was not the only one: a whole bunch of people from a local organisation to support gifted children with problems saw the same, and confirmed that policy had changed recently with some changes on the local government.
Then, last week, another media from "the other side" just sided with the attac onto gifted children. Well, not too strange, since all of them are globalists after all, but enough to signal that there is something more than the classic woketards behind that.
But yesterday I saw many other influencers and commenters siding with the attack, and I have serious doubhts that they are paid or even aware that such attack exists. It looks like a contagion or even something darker going on behind that.
My wife also spotted some weird facts regarding the heavy interest of people, not aligned politically (but with power and influence on the system, all of them Karens from left but also from right) to insist that giftedness doesn't exist, and that all are cases of hyperactivity and/or autism.
Asking other organisations of gifted children's parents across Spain (we are in Barcelona), and it seems that there is "something", like a "mental virus" that is "infecting" minds of lawyers and institutions, specially on education, that try to dispell anybody, any children that doesn't conform to the "preplanned personality" they want to "imprint" onto them as ADHD (sorry if these are not the right names, I'm not english) or Autistic.
"Not Fit for Society" is more akin to the tag handled. And, in few cases, medically sponsored.
Even worse, I found that LGBTI ideology is specifically targeted to gifted girls (I met four of them, that, as they grow up, found that to be a "pass by stupidity").
A complex issue, and I wonder if there is something more behind this, since it seems to me that this is well beyond a mere "psyops" or "propaganda campaign".
I'm also interested if there is also some magical dimension behind giftedness.
Beamspot.

Date: 2026-05-11 05:41 pm (UTC)Second, social contagions are a reality. When people are under serious stress, especially in a cultural context where "nice" behavior is mandatory, anything that gives them an excuse to be cruel to other people will spread like a disease, as a way to relieve their stress and the anger, hatred, and other nasty emotions stress generates.
I hope you can shield your daughter from that. It's a horrible thing to have to go through.

Date: 2026-05-11 09:53 am (UTC)I've just finished your latest novel, The House of Crows. I'd go so far to say its been the best one yet. Not because of the characters or the plot, which was perfectly acceptable, but the way you have managed to weave in to the story occult theory. You've really made the best of that approach, providing more clarity than Dion Fortune ever managed in her books. I look forward to more of the same as you progress this series. I can see it providing invaluable knowledge on the occult, for those readers who are looking for an enjoyable story, in digestible amounts, for years to come. It reminds me of the Bardic Grade of OBOD. Where the data points can be unpacked from, on the face of it, a simple story.

From:LRP names
Date: 2026-05-11 10:23 am (UTC)I remember you saying that the LRP needed to use 4 lettered names. I was reading Israel Regardies Middle Pillar book that was expanded by the Cicero's. There is a chapter regarding the pentagram and LRP. I do not know if it was Regardie or the Circeros that wrote about them, but there are variations to the LRP, such as an Egyptian and an Irish version that do not use 4 lettered names. There are several other versions of the LRP in that chapter that do not as well. Do you know why there is this discrepancy in the use of four lettered names? Why is it important to use the 4 lettered names?

Date: 2026-05-11 12:08 pm (UTC)1. What does the occult have to say, if anything, about euthanasia for animals? (Don't worry, I'm not seeking advice. I'm just curious.)
2. Similarly, if a body is cremated and the ashes retained inside a receptacle, does that make a difference? As opposed to scattering the ashes somewhere. I'm wondering if it prevents the soul from moving on or has some other effect not commonly known. (I'm assuming the answer would be the same for both animals and humans, but please correct me if I'm wrong.)
(no subject)
Date: 2026-05-11 05:53 pm (UTC)2) No, cremation is a good way to make sure that the soul is completely liberated from the material shell of the body, and what happens to the ashes afterwards is irrelevant to that soul. Keeping the ashes in a container, though, often results in the living becoming emotionally "stuck" on the dead person or animal. In most cases, for that reason, scattering the ashes is psychologically healthier for the survivors. I was grateful that my late wife wanted her ashes scattered, and specified the place; going down to the river and scattering her ashes from rocks that reminded her of the banks of the Spokane River, where she loved to sit as a small child, felt like the completion of a circle for her, and for me, a gentle and appropriate way to say goodbye after our long journey together.

Would the result be like an etheric injury? And would the injury have any chance of healing, or would some sort of etheric scarring be inevitable?
What would the difference be if this happened as a child, many decades ago, compared to an adult, in the recent past?
Would there be any way a person could integrate the experience in a way so as not to not carry over the trauma into a future life?

Date: 2026-05-11 05:59 pm (UTC)In most cases, as I've suggested above, the etheric body heals up readily. It's the other aspects of the person that need care and nurturing over an extended period to heal. (This is familiar stuff to me, btw, because my late wife was a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. Her etheric body was fine, until her illness began weakening it quite late in life; the scars that needed healing were on other planes.)

Date: 2026-05-11 12:20 pm (UTC)Recently I’ve found myself repurposing and reusing some second hand spiritual and religious items (particularly some Catholic ritual and devotional artifacts) for my own practice and use. (They align with my spiritual beliefs and practices, and there is a glut of convents and abbeys closing and liquidating their contents.)
Since I don’t know the particular history of these items, or the previous owners, I’ve been using some of the Essene techniques to “detach” any unwanted or unwholesome energy or entity attachments from the items. (To avoid magnifying any anything during more esoteric practices.)
Are there any practices or additional cleansing you would recommend when repurposing items like this?
Thank you and wishing the best,

From:Steve Bannon and magic
Date: 2026-05-11 01:55 pm (UTC)Hey JMG, maybe you'll permit me one more question for the evening. Would you consider Steve Bannon an occultist, a magician, or neither? I know he's a Traditionalist or Post-Traditionalist. To my eyes it seems he is swimming or has swum in esoteric theory, and then put it into practice to create change in the world. Now, is he doing rituals and meditating? I kinda doubt it but who knows. But I still think he meets the criteria for magician or occultist. Or maybe I should settle for calling him a Traditionalist.
From: ecosophia
I don't know enough about his practices to hazard a guess. Some Traditionalists are just more or less orthodox religionists with a somewhat abstruse theology; some are occultists; some are mages. It depends on whether the practical dimension of their spirituality (a) is the same as any other member of their church, (b) includes regular meditation and other occult exercises but not ceremonial magic, or (c) includes full-on ceremonial magic.
-----
My family watches his "War Room" daily. On his shelf behind him is a picture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, with other Roman Catholic items. He has a sign "God will NOT be Mocked." And finally another sign about there are no coincidences.
His set-up is different from other MAGA broadcasters in that they often have a studio with an American flag background or the red, white, and blue motif.
What he does in his openings is to repeat "This is the scream of a dying regime. Don't cry for them for we are going to go medieval on them." He adds, "Ask yourself, what can I do for my country." Again other broadcasters do not have this type of opening of exhorting the public and urging them forward in the fight.
I think he is a magician as he understands how to change the probabilities of a given event. He presents the issue and urges his "War Room Posse" to action. He does a lot of repetition in his presentation as though to make watching him hypnotic. What I have observed is that 80 percent of his desires in the political sphere is usually answered. Recently, he had a week of several successes - the redistricting of the South, the ending of the VA redistricting gerrymander, AI stoppage, and H1B stoppage.
I think his relations with the audience is ceremonial and magical. When he has a substitute on, there is no magical tension. Just simply reporting and interviewing. It is his intensity that makes the difference.

Thank you!

Date: 2026-05-11 06:20 pm (UTC)The second was the system of Renaissance Pythagorean rapier fencing taught by Gerard Thibault (1574-1627), the author of Academy of the Sword, which I translated.
The third is the swordsmanship that's part of tai chi training. There are plenty of books on that so I don't plan on writing one!

Guidelines for how long prayer requests stay on the list, how to word requests, how to be added to the weekly email list, how to improve the chances of your prayer being answered, and several other common questions and issues, are to be found at the Ecosophia Prayer List FAQ.
If there are any among you who might wish to join me in a bit of astrological timing, I pray each week for the health of all those with health problems on the list on the astrological hour of the Sun on Sundays, bearing in mind the Sun's rulerships of heart, brain, and vital energies. If this appeals to you, I invite you to join me.
