Even without the divorce, this is good advice. Friends have a significant influence on how you live; my friends are the board-gaming, nerdy variety who praise my homebrew and happily accept gifts of home made jam and home laid eggs. It would be a lot harder to live the way I do if they weren't. It is important to surround yourself with people who will reinforce the values you want to keep.
