Toward Ecosophy

1) Make it the second week in January. That's far enough from New Year's Day that everyone's over the hangovers. Tell everyone that part of the celebration is that guys don't shave -- if you want to get risqué you can suggest that ladies do likewise -- and that everyone wears blue jeans and plaid flannel shirts.

2) It could really turn into something -- but that depends on the subtle currents of collective consciousness. I'd encourage you to have fun with it and see what happens.
