Dear JMG,

A couple of months ago, I asked about academic sources on Iolo Morganwg, and you recommended “A Rattleskull Genius.” Thank you again for that! It proved most helpful.

I also picked up a copy of your fascinating book on the Coelbren. I wound up citing it quite a bit in my paper as well, particularly your defense of the distinction between authenticity and validity. In the paper, I noted the similarities between your argument and one that William James makes in “The Varieties of Religious Experience,” though he speaks of it in terms of origin and value.

I’m curious if you’d agree that the Pragmatism exemplified in your book is perhaps part of what’s giving Revivalist Druidry its staying power in our day? Whereas the Abrahamic faiths often can’t help but see questions of origin/authenticity as existential threats since they’ve argued themselves into that corner, it seems like you and others have left Druidry with the ability to say “yes, and..?” and go on about the business of centering a spiritual life on the green Earth.

Thanks again!

Ryan M.
