The image? I field a lot of questions about my books these days, so I've decided to do little capsule summaries of them here, one per week. The book above on the left was my twenty-ninth published book, and remains far and away the most successful of my books from the peak oil era. Its genesis, like most of my other peak oil books, began on the blog I ran in those days, The Archdruid Report, with a series of posts on the appropriate technology movement -- one of the most promising of the movements of the 1970s ecological scene, which attempted to craft advanced technologies that could work within the limits of sustainability. Though it was erased from collective memory by mass media and corporate interests, it produced quite a few useful technologies, and this book was my attempt to bring those back to the attention of those who might use them. Given the steady sales of this book, I still have hope. If you're interested, you can get a copy here.
Buy Me A Coffee

I've had several people ask about tipping me for answers here, and though I certainly don't require that I won't turn it down. You can use either of the links above to access my online tip jar; Buymeacoffee is good for small tips, Ko-Fi is better for larger ones. (I used to use PayPal but they developed an allergy to free speech, so I've developed an allergy to them.) If you're interested in political and economic astrology, or simply prefer to use a subscription service to support your favorite authors, you can find my Patreon page here and my SubscribeStar page here.

Re: Flag Question
Date: 2024-06-03 02:29 pm (UTC)If so, it's a hybrid of the solar cross -- which belongs to the same symbolic family as the swastika -- and the Latin cross, which gets a lot of use in Scandinavian flags among many others. Let's see whether it gains general acceptance among the "Auslander Raus" crowd. If so, I'd expect to see some interesting political shifts.
Re: Flag Question
Date: 2024-06-03 03:44 pm (UTC)Legend has it that the flag fell from the sky on June 15, 1219, during a Danish crusade against the still Pagan Estonians, to give victory to the Danes under King Valdemar II. It's about as popular among Danes as the Stars and Stripes is among Americans, and displayed about as frequently.
(This was the same King Valdemar II who promulgated the Laws for Jutland with the quotable opening words, "With law shall the land be built. ..... If there were no law in the land, then he would have the most who could grab the most. Therefore shall the law be done for the needs of all men, so that just men and wise men and men not litigant can enjoy their peace, and unjust men and bad men may fear ...")
Re: Flag Question
Date: 2024-06-03 05:04 pm (UTC)Somehow the flags that I have seen recently (on video) appeared to be square in shape, hence equal-armed in appearance. However, if the original/true version is the Latin cross, that gives it a different flavour.
And thanks, Robert, for the fascinating story about the Danish flag! These myths, as improbable as they may be at the physical level, have extraordinary power to galvanize a nation.
