It's a few minutes before midnight, so we can launch into a new Magic Monday. Ask me anything about occultism and I'll do my best to answer it. With certain exceptions, any question received by midnight Monday Eastern time will get an answer. Please note: Any question or comment received after then will not get an answer, and in fact will just be deleted. (I've been getting an increasing number of people trying to post after these are closed, so will have to draw a harder line than before.) If you're in a hurry, or suspect you may be the 143,916th person to ask a question, please check out the very rough version 1.1 of The Magic Monday FAQ here. Also: I will not be putting through or answering any more questions about practicing magic around children. I've answered those in simple declarative sentences in the FAQ. If you read the FAQ and don't think your question has been answered, read it again. If that doesn't help, consider remedial reading classes; yes, it really is as simple and straightforward as the FAQ says. The image? I field a lot of questions about my books these days, so I've decided to do little capsule summaries of them here, one per week. The book above on the left was my fifteenth published book, and it's the one book of mine that I've allowed to go out of print permanently. The publisher who brought out Monsters was interested in other books in the broad paranormal-weird stuff end of things, and the Atlantis legend was an obvious topic; unfortunately the result was rushed, and not really well thought out. Someday I want to do a proper book on the Atlantis legend, and more generally on the tradition that there were entire cycles of advanced civilization in the distant past -- but this is not that book, and I'm somewhat embarrassed by it.

Date: 2024-02-05 05:33 pm (UTC)2) It's very similar to the Pledge of Allegiance -- and both those are serious matters. You are pledging yourself to the service of a specific national egregor, embodied in a symbol. Violating such an oath always brings blowback, in this life or another.

Swing Dance
Date: 2024-02-05 05:37 pm (UTC)"Western swing" is a dance and music style and cultural gathering tradition, associated with history and values of cowboy and rancher culture of the Old West frontier. In the musical "Oklahoma," "Oh, the farmer and the cowboy should be friends!"
"Jazz swing" is associated with jazz music mostly for the modern young urban sophisticates of the time, especially shortly before, during, and after World War II. The movie "Swing kids" shows it as dangerous rebellion among anti-Nazi youth in Germany. The movie "Memphis Belle" includes jazz swing in the U.S.
The "Enchantment Under The Sea Dance" that Doc Brown pointed out wasn't a swing dance. But swap out some musical styles, dance steps, and what it means among a group of people to be dressed up for a night out, and it's all the same human desire for shared enjoyment.

1) to strengthen my patience, hard work, and discipline in my works and life, to understand the nature of reality, cause and effect deeply and to be wise, to be able to personify justice.
2) are there any other positive things one can engage with saturn on?

Date: 2024-02-05 05:49 pm (UTC)For example if you want a job, keep in mind a scenario that right now, not off in the future, from inside your view of life as with any conversation, you see and hear your friend happily congratulate you on working in your new job. You don't include looking for listings, sending in resumes and applications, having interviews, etc.
For a better apartment, you think from inside a scene that already proves you have it, such as breakfast in your great new kitchen, or whatever moment best proves you already have it. Listings, applications, appointments, deposits, etc would not be in the scene because in that moment of happiness they're already all behind you.

Here is where non-neurotypical people have a real advantage over most of humanity. To survive among the neurotypical masses, one has to learn how to think. Instincts don't help us as much as they help the neurotypical. (And, of course, if you don't or can't use words to think (as we discussed a week or two ago), you're not neurotypical.)

One thing most people don't understand about demons is that they're weak -- they can only control us with our permission, which is why they have to focus on temptation and the like. The great exception is that if you invoke them, you've put yourself in their power -- and unfortunately a lot of people, especially but not only in the "Magic Resistance" spells aimed at Trump, invoked demons. (Most of the publicly circulated spells for hexing Trump included explicit invocations of demons.)
But there's also something much more practical going on with the well-funded nonprofits that are flooding the US and Europe with illegal migrants. I'll be talking about that in this week's post over on the blog.

Date: 2024-02-05 05:55 pm (UTC)2) Dion Fortune advised against it -- she held that if you start working with one of those saints, they'll inevitably lead you toward their church. The great exceptions are the saints, especially mythological ones, who were recognized before the year 1000 or so. Since the Christian church hadn't broken apart into quarreling sects yet, there's less pull toward any one church.
3) That's one of the sources of power saints have.
4) That doesn't surprise me at all. So many children have put so much emotional energy and belief into the image of Father Christmas that it's surprising he hasn't become more of a folk religious figure than he is already!

Date: 2024-02-05 05:55 pm (UTC)"Everything wrong" is a bit of a generalization. I think insulin has saved many lives. The problem I think lies in the system that we live in that goes out of its way to make people sick, so that we have to take such extreme measures just to remain healthy and then it takes a tremendous amount of knowledge, time and skill to piece a system that takes the whole organism into account in our society, as the Chinese did on theirs thousands of years ago to balance the body properly.
That said, of my acquaintances with diabetes, I don't know the type, I don't know anyone who was recommended to eat sugars with their insulin... one of them isn't even allowed to eat the wrong rice, so it seems the medical sciences are worse than I thought in some areas.
More generally, I've seen what you mention in the scientific circles and to my mind, it is the consequence of lob sided training of the mind, which seems to create stupidity in great numbers. In scientific training, intuitions are encouraged to be put down (because many things in physics for example, are counterintuitive initially, but they seem to throw the whole thing away. Except people like Leonard Susskind or Richard Feynman, which very clearly are using intuition in their quantum mechanics) and then trained to think only in abstractions, with no or very little effort to take those abstractions and apply them manually to get the feedback and the skill. To me, it seems like the perfect recipe for creating hallucinations, getting indoctrinated and then never bother to check with the real world. I can canalice a vein for example, because I've done it, I've felt many types of skins and know that it hurts --whereas my friends graduating from med school that saw me helping my mom, have no idea how and prick the poor kids 10 times! "Bedside medicine" is something we desperately need to recover.
It's like the diplomats the speak of the native tribes of Peru when they saw them at a show in a fancy hotel and deals with them over email and a ten foot stick. Which explains why his policies just keep reducing their numbers.
