Around here, our running joke has become "It's not covid, go home and die."
My spouse, my hairdresser, and a work acquaintance ALL have an almost identical story of going to a walk-in medical clinic complaining of what they suspected was a some sort of bacterial infection, looking for some antibiotics to clear it up. In every case, they were given a covid test, and, when the covid test was negative, told "it's just a virus" and to go home. All three of them wound up in the emergency room days later, with worse symptoms, where they were finally diagnosed with a sinus infection, strep throat, or pneumonia, and given heavy-duty antibiotics for a problem that had advanced much further than it should have thanks to the walk-in clinic doctors dismissing their issues after the the almighty covid test came up negative.
