The rule as John taught it is that you should be doing some form of daily meditation while practicing the Essene work. It doesn't matter what kind. John had people practicing discursive meditation, mindfulness meditation, zazen, Taoist breath-circulating meditation, you name it. The Essene healing breath meditation is for those who don't have another meditation practice.
So you needn't add an additional practice session unless you want to. Put a little more time into your relaxation at the beginning of your daily discursive meditation -- that's what John advised me to do when I was learning this stuff.
