Have you met very many young adults now? The trading away of children's freedoms and ability to be children in the name of convenience and safety for adults is not new, it's been a thing for decades now. The Covid hysteria has just taken helicopter parenting to its logical conclusion. Having said that, I agree with you that ten years from now we'll have unusually damaged young adults, but it's worth noting that the only reason this was able to happen is because it's not really new.
