The diagram to the left?  The three primary transcendent functions in classic sacred geometry, the √2 (square root of 2) √3 (square root of 3), and φ (Golden Section) ratios, expressed geometrically by the square and its diagonal, the triangle and its altitude, and the pentagon and pentagram. The last obstacle to the reprinting of my Sacred Geometry Oracle is finally out of the way, the cards are rolling off the presses of a firm in Malta -- not at all inappropriate, as Malta has famous prehistoric temples with fascinating sacred geometry -- and I expect to be able sometime soon to announce a firm release date rather earlier than the publisher had expected. So some sacred geometry seems appropriate!

Congratulations on the Sacred Geometry oracle moving forward! Thanks as always for kindly answering so many questions and hosting this forum for others to answer as well.

1. Related to your announcement: if I have the previous sacred geometry oracle with the unfortunate 90s-ish patina'd industrial graphic design, will there be much different in the new printing besides an aesthetic more in-keeping with the material and your vision?
2. I'll be adding Spirit Below to my SOP practice tomorrow, and it seems a bit different from the gates of the 4 elements - besides "check in with the deity you're invoking that he/she is okay with it and follow the directions in the DMH," any advice?
3. What led you to write a series of books on a (mostly) non-magical occult path (you just-announced "The Way of the Golden Section")? Just filling an unmet need, or was there more to it than that?
4. My memory and search skills are failing me - in one or more of your posts/essays, you mentioned a book that discusses stories of magic done by Native Americans prior to the coming of Europeans that include accounts of feats outside the scope of what magic seems to be able to accomplish today (such as obvious and noticeable effects on physical objects) - was this God is Red or another title?
5. This might be hard to answer, but how much of your current understanding of the planes is from teachings/writings, and how much from your own meditation/perception?
6. For either JMG or the commentariat, what energy centers/meridians are associated with the muscles to either side of the spine where it meets the hips? And/or, what are some good resources to learn about the links between the energetic body and the physical body?

1) I've changed the order of the cards somewhat due to a clearer understanding of the sacred geometry of spirals. Other than that, it's mostly that the art doesn't suck. (The new cards, in fact, are deliberately very simple -- see example below.)


2) Nope. Just the same as before.

3) One of the major changes in my own approach to occultism over the last decade or so is that I'm finding much more value in the aspects of occultism that don't have to do with magic as such -- those that focus on wisdom rather than power. A lot of the old study programs offered by occult schools taught that, but those are hard to come by these days. I decided to remedy that.

4) It's titled The World We Used To Live In and it's by Vine Deloria Jr.

5) It's all both! I've studied a great deal of occult philosophy, and checked it systematically against my own perceptions in meditation and visionary experience.

6) I'm going to toss this one to the commentariat.

Do you have any ideas as to what happened in the late 1970s/early 1980s? It's truly weird just how many things suddenly changed overnight, and just how many of the issues we face today come out of truly atrocious decisions made starting in that time. Do you think something happened on the inner planes in that era?

That's been something I've been brooding about -- well, pretty much since it happened. I don't yet have a firm answer. My sense for a long time has been that when people in the industrial world crumpled and ran away from the challenge of the transition to sustainability, that collective choice set us on the road to some really ugly consequences -- but was that the cause, or the effect of some other cause? That's a question I can't yet answer.

I am slowly adding the steps in the sphere of protection, I just added fire a few days ago, I spent much more than a week at the first step. Since I have been going thru post fire recovery, and insurance company shenanigans, I had decided that I wanted to encompass not just me but kept the sphere expanding to, the trailer around me (That I am still staying in, and am doing the SOP in in the evening in the driveway of my house), then in steps, to the house, then the main part of the house, the whole house, and right past the house where the barn is being rebuilt.

Should I be trying to make such a large sphere ? especially at first, it realy calmed me to basically coat with peace and lightness this whole stressful scene. After doing this for so long would it be alright when things calm down to do a smaller sphere ? Or should I just be keeping my thoughts smaller and just around me now ?

Second question, I see many people here talking of doing a daily divination using 3 cards. What kind of cards are these and what are the instructions for doing that 3 card spread ?

If someone formed a link to the demonic in an earlier life, is there anything in the Golden Dawn toolkit which could be used to seal the link, such that demonic forces cannot influence future lives?

Yes. You can break the link quite readily by establishing a link instead with your own higher self and guardian angel/genius, and the GD work focuses on that process.

Magical cleaning

Dear JMG,
I spent the last week skipping my magic bath in the morning and doing a spray shower of Florida Water while saying the same prayers I recite while bathing. (Maiden protect me, Mother cleanse me, crone, help me to be wise.) I think the Florida Water spray bath is just as effective as the cold, magic bath at keeping negativity away. I would be interested to hear what other people find.

Someone asked for my Florida Water recipe last week but I was not in time to reply. Here it is. My version is water based as I distil a lot of floral waters from my magic garden. 1/2 cup each Angelica water, citrus water, rose water, rose geranium water, lemon balm water and nine drops each of the essential oils clary sage, rose geranium, palo santo, bitter orange, rosemary and lavender. It has a nice clean scent and is very refreshing.

I was reading a novel by Charlotte Bronte and she described the Belgian maids using damp coffee grounds to sweep the floors and mentioned that housemaids in England used damp tea leaves. I tried this with some damp tea leaves from a herb tea of rose petals, lemon balm and chamomile. It puts a pleasant influence on the house and it helps enormously when sweeping a bare wooden floor. The dust usually flies all over and the damp tea leave attract the dust and bind it all together.

My Husband's red globe has put in a couple more appearances. The last one, it was smaller than before and he spoke to it. He asked who it was and what it wanted. It came slowly towards him and then dissipated as it got within a foot of him.

Order of Spiritual Alchemy

Hello Mr. Greer,

I just started on the first lesson of the Order of Spiritual Alchemy. Two days ago I wrote down all the things my father did that hurt me over the years. Tonight I will be doing the same for my mother. I really like the curriculum (well, at least the little of it that I have read through so far). But I do have one question. Why is it that the OSA focuses just on individual people who have hurt you? There are a number of larger, collective movements that have done a lot of damage to people. For instance, the religion of progress has caused me numerous headaches.

Either way I am still super interested in the OSA. This is just something that occurred to me.

The OSA work is a beginning, not an end. Most people get most of their psychological scars from other individuals, and so resolving those is a useful start for the work of spiritual alchemy. Once you understand how it's done, you can apply the same tools to other things, such as collective movements.

1. Do you have any general interest reading recommendations on exorcism(s)? I’ve been feeling a weird pull to explore the subject and, as usual, google isn’t turning up anything useful apart from a Josephine McCarthy book.

2. Would a house chart for “should I pursue a volunteer position at X non-profit?” be a 10th house question? I mulled it over for awhile and wasn’t 100% sure. For context, the the org. in question is very 9th house, and I'm interested in it for 9th house reasons. I suppose that I could also rephrase it to something like “Would pursuing a volunteer position at X be a right step on ‘the path?’” to change it to the 9th. Let me know what you think.

And first of all: thank you! You pointed me towards the Judson etheric exercise last week, and that is really very helpful. :-)

A couple of questions, if I may:

1. In the Judson etheric exercise post, you explain the background as „energetic alchemy“ which can be „created in the land, by way of certain structures of stone and earth“. Have you written more about this elsewhere, or are there any other references I could check out?

And 2., completely unrelated:

I‘m starting with the Druid initiation year as per the Druidry Handbook. For the rituals, I will translate the ritual texts into my native language and adjust them to speak to an „unknown god“. How important is it to get the phrasing 100% right? Could I inadvertently do any harm if I use the wrong words, or is this a case of „the good intentions count“?

Elsewhere (maybe in original discussion of your demon hypothesis?? I can‘t remember for sure) I‘ve seen you discuss with another commenter how somebody was proposing a very badly phrased ritual, and how that could backfire.

If I need to be careful with my words, what especially do I need to watch out for? Or could you point me to any resources about this?

In an earlier Magic Monday you said that the link the demonic is why the lower astral is as gunked up as it is. I have two questions on this:

a) What exactly do you mean by gunked up?

b) You've also said that interactions with demons are actually quite rare, but if they noticeably shape how we experience an entire plane, this seems like quite a lot of interaction. I'm sure I'm missing something, but how do you reconcile these claims?

1) Full of astral gunk. ;-) The astral plane is the plane of emotions, mental images, and imagination; most of our ordinary thinking and feeling take place there. The gunk on the lower astral consists of corrupted thoughts and feelings.

2) If you get hit by a car and survive with serious injuries, that impact takes up only a very small fraction of your total lifespan but the effects continue for quite a bit longer. The link our species mistakenly established with the demonic realm is like the impact; the long term effects will continue until our species leaves this plane.

1-I read that not all radionics machines work with electrical power, but use light, magnetism or sound (the Delawar machines were magnet-based) have you used machines like these, and are they as good as electric ones?

2-is the hieronymus machine the best multipurpose radionics machine? Or are there machines equal to or better than it?

SoP and scrying

1. I have been going trough my first round of scrying the elements and have been wondering, about the effects on the SoP. In the instructions I got one should imagine certain images inside a gate. A local landscape corresponding to the element at a corresponding time of day and year… And now I have looked just beyond the gate and the threshold shown to me differs in most cases. Should One adjust the SoP after the scrying, or stick to the landscape images?

this could almost go in the Covid posts but is kinda occult, and possibly unanswerable, so please feel free not to post, or say I should ask elsewhere. My work in Sydney, Australia now mandates the vax for office work as of last week - I've yet to have the call from my manager, but the company was >90% vaxxed a month ago - and everything's pretty much reopened if you're double vax. Awake as usual at 3ish and more stressed than usual, I was thinking "Well **** maybe I should just get it then", when I had a brief mental flash (my mind's eye is pretty dim) of what I can only call "evil dyad face made of wood" watching me - shaped like a tall rectangle with a pointy chin and dark keyhole eyes, and then heard 2/3 overlapping voices saying something like "You made the choice". Given the speculation about an occult link to Covid, is it possible to interpret this in any way? I've just started LRP from your CGD book, would adding the SOP help?

Thanks for this. I'd say you got a very clear image of an evil entity trying to pressure you into taking the drug. I know what conclusion I'd draw from this! As for the LRP, no, stick with that one -- the LRP and the SoP aren't compatible with each other; you do one or the other.

Books

This might be foolish to ask about, but do you think there would be any value in writing a book about the life force or meditation? I think you also said if anybody wants a sequel to DMH, they will have to write it themselves, is this correct? I've enjoyed what little writing I've done in the past and these all seem like fascinating projects to me. Do you have any advice for an aspiring writer besides the need to write regularly?

1) I think there's definitely room for books on those subjects if you have something original to say about them.

2) Read books that were written before you were born -- lots of them -- and write as much and as often as you can. There's more to it than that, but those two rules will get you where you need to go.

Mundane astrology

Hi JMG,

I'm currently working through your course on mundane astrology and having a lot of fun, so thank you very much for it! It reminds me a lot of Asimov's "psychohistory" from the Foundation series. Since the stars incline and don't compel, it makes a lot of sense to apply astrology to a large number of people, most of whom will always follow the path of least resistance.

So two questions about the topic:

1. Does it only depend on the house if a planet is angular or on the actual distance to the angle? So if mercury is in the 6th house but almost 50° away from the descendent, is he angular as well?

2. At what point does a planet in a cadent house become angular? You mentioned this in your ingress charts a few times: a planet in a cadent house close enough to the angles already gathering some angular strength. What orb would you apply here?

3. How small can the political unit be that mundane astrology can sensibly be applied to? I assume a federal state is large enough but how about a county? A city? A city's district? I assume there are no hard and fast rules but are there some heuristics to apply?

I had a question about mutual receptions since they have come up decently often in the last couple of Patreon Ingress Charts. You said in one of them that the essential dignity of a planet in mutual reception is considered to be that of the planet it is in reception with, ie, Mars in Taurus in MR to Venus in Aries would be considered to be in the sign of its rulership by mutual reception. Does this apply to triplicities, accidental dignity, and aspects as well? Also, do you consider the planet to take on the character of the sign that it is in mutual reception with as well as the dignity? For example, Mars in Aries by mutual reception has the DIGNITY of being in the sign of its rulership, but is it also to be considered Arian in the manner in which it manifests? Also if you know whether it works the same way in mundane as it does natal astrology I would be much obliged: I have a fascinating Mercury/Venus mutual reception in my natal chart that I am still trying to unpack and understand. Anyone else in the commentariat who knows astrology, I'd love to hear if you know the answer to this!

Second question: How do you personally evaluate the dignity of aspects versus essential and accidental dignities? For example, lets say a planet has a trine, another planet is in the sign of its rulership, and another still is in the first house, the most potent angular one to my understanding. In a vacuum, how would you rank these qualities in terms of their dignifying power?

Apologies if any of this is basic or obvious; I haven't yet dived into a formal book of astrology, just kind of idly looked into it in my free time over the last couple of months.

1) I don't use the minor modes of mutual reception. I only count it if the two planets are in each other's rulerships. As for the sign influencing the mode of planetary manifestation, that's a fascinating question to which I don't yet know the answer.

2) I don't rank them -- that hasn't seemed helpful. I treat each of those as a dignity, without further specification.

Three plane incarnation question

I recall you saying that human souls are limited to having bodies on three planes at a time, and that once we are finished with the physical plane we will manifest on the mental, astral,and etheric planes. I also note that elsewhere you I note that you have suggested elsewhere that once we are finished with our human bodies we still have the option of incarnation as nature spirits. Would this then imply that nature spirits are etheric creatures, or just that the world doesn't really fit our models.

Some nature spirits are etheric in terms of their densest bodies. Others have bodies made of the matter in which they exist -- water elementals, for example have bodies of water. The world is a complicated place!

On the hypothesis of demonic possession are there any clues to look for? I noticed that people started noticing that some of the ones behind mandates and punitive measure look demonic, could that be consider as a sign, even if subjective, aura was always thought to be some kind of synesthesia

Demonic possession is almost certainly not involved, as that has very dramatic symptoms, the sort of thing that get you locked up in a padded room. Demonic influence is much subtler. The most important thing to look for is total illogic -- demons aren't native to this universe and they don't understand it, and so people influenced by them tend toward "one plus one equals petunia" sorts of bizarre illogic.

Is this normal occult landscape?

Is the worldview you present relatively mainstream occultism or more of a niche thing? For example if I was talking to someone familiar with occult circles and speaking Greer-isms would it be likely they would turn around and say 'you have been reading Greer haven't you?'.

Obviously there are things you say that are not yours (eg your definition of magic from Fortune) and somethings most likely local to you (eg a big bowl of evilly evil evilness with evil sauce or It's tentacles all the way down etc) but if I was talking to someone and started with 'occultists tend towards' and presented things I had learned on here (as opposed to the colourful concepts in their mind) would I be giving a good generic viewpoint or ascribing a level of genericism to what is more of a small corner of the landscape?

(since most of what I know occult wise has been learned on here to me this is normal but for all I know I could be on the occult version of Mother Jones, Alex Jones, Jim Jones etc)

The worldview I'm presenting here is one common variant of a set of teachings that were standard a hundred years ago. If you'd gone to a meeting of occultists at the local Theosophical hall in Australia in 1921, and started talking in the terms I've been using, everyone would have known instantly what you were talking about.

But that was a century ago. These days? You have to run with one of the few surviving occult schools to get this kind of worldview. Outside of that, people will probably think you've just been reading Greer.

Last week I wrote "Is colour breathing as a precursor to meditation compatible with the practice of LBRP/MP (in any flavour)? What about the exercises to take in solar / telluric nwyfre? I'm aware that LRM and any kind of GD are not compatible but unsure whether this also applies to those practices..." - which was obviously senseless since I confused LRM and DMH. If you substitute LRM and DMH, I hope this questions make more sense!

I answered the first question myself by reading in the CGD. The second question remains.

And I'd like another question that arose during this week: I noticed, that I am able to imagine situations very vividly, including all the emotions that would usually arise if this happened in reality. This usually involves thinking about a past situation and imaging it turning out differently. I noticed that, quite frequently, the quality of the images, the persons I talk to and the whole plot of the "alternative memory" is hardly discernible from real memories. That doesn't mean that I confuse the real and the imagined past but just that the quality of both is very close to being the same.

So, I am wondering what the implications of doing this migth be. When imaging the past, I guess I could use it almost therapeutically and as a source of insight by creating different stories and observe how I react to those, for example. But is there anything else to this or anything I should be careful of, in particular? And the same questions in regard to imaging the future - I guess I'm entering magical territory here. One observation I have made, for example, in the past is that when I am angry with someone and I imagine myself engaging in some kind of fight with that person and play out different versions of our possible next encounter (most often the full scale ranging from a fist fight to reconciliation) - quite often when we meet again, it is as we never had that dispute in the first place.

That sort of creative imagination is a potent technique, but a fairly safe one. Especially if you go through many different variations, no one variation gets enough focus to become harmful.

Morning John
As a light sleeper I often find myself half way between sleep and awake. It happened again today. I had been dreaming and started to awaken. In transition I can ‘see’ images flicker through my mind like someone switching channels on a tv. These are moving images unrelated to my dream. If I try to pay attention to them, ie focus my thinking mind, they get switched off. If I focus my mind on my breathing within a minute I return to dreaming sleep. The value of this to me is it shows that the thinking mind impedes the soul/consciousness, and that when asleep the soul/consciousness is free from interruption to connect outwith the material plane. What I’m fascinated by is, what are these images that I see in transition? Are these other peoples dreams? I used to think my light sleeping was a problem. Now I see it as a gift.

Not a question, but adding another datapoint here (I'm still observing my own experiences at the moment.)

I'm not a particular light sleeper, but have been noticing similar things happening to me. I've always had periodic night terrors, so am used to the experience of experiencing dream like states while awake (and paralyzed in my bed,) but lately I've been experiencing a sort of "meta awareness" within my dream states. It's not images like yours, it's more of an amorphous feeling like I'm connected to something. Similar to your experience once I try to focus my consciousness on it the feeling goes away, and I'm left with a vague sense of deja-vu.

The overall feeling I have is being privy to some sort of knowledge that I'm not ready to be conscious of yet, and occasionally I've had some very slight premonitions (very slight - like thinking "the alarm is going to go off" moments before it goes off slight.)

Greek SoP

I have three questions for you today - thank you for Magic Mondays...

I asked you for names of Greek deities to use with the SoP a few weeks ago and I have been gradually doing the SoP as per your instructions, I'm now starting with Fire. The names you gave me were:

East: Apollo
West: Dionysus
South: Athena
North: Aphrodite
Spirit Above: Zeus
Spirit Below: Demeter


However I realised last week that I've made a mistake as I have been using the Gods for Spirit Above & Spirit Below for the Opening...Meaning I've been using Zeus - Head ; Demeter - Womb Center & Life force within me - instead of any God (because I have no Patron God)

I know that there's a reasoning for the 'pairing' of certain Gods together - so now I don't know how to fix it? I don't want to pair Olympians at random... I think I like Poseidon, because I've had a fixation with the trident symbol for a while, but that's not good enough to bring him in, as you need his counterpart - corrrect? Should I just keep Spirit Above & Below as per your original suggestion and then what do I do about the Gods for the Opening?

Also, another question...I've decided to start with Geomancy for divination, which one of your 2 books do you recommend? The Art and Practice of Geomancy: Divination, Magic or Earth Divination, Earth Magic? Any other books you recommend? (I was waiting for the cards in The Sacred Geometry Oracle book - I think you said that the SoP fits within the context of this book but I've been waiting for it since January, and I'm still not sure I'll get it this year : ( )

Final question, I'm making my own Geomancy sticks now...is there a simple way to consacrate them before starting to use them? How do I store them?

1) It's not a mistake. You can use the same gods in the opening and in the six directions.

2) Either one. They cover the same material.

3) Sprinkle water on them from your fingertips, saying, "I purify you with water." Wave them in the rising smoke of incense, saying, "I consecrate you with fire." Then say a prayer to the relevant deity -- if you worship the Greek deities, Apollo is the patron of oracles -- asking for his blessing on them. As far as storing them, wrap them in a piece of silk or linen.
