CompanionI'm pleased to report that my forthcoming title The Weird of Hali Companion is now available for preorder as an ebook. Once it's out, there'll be a single link to buy it, but for the moment you'll need to preorder it from your preferred online ebook vendor:

(If you prefer to use Amazon but don't live in the US, check your own country's Amazon website -- it should be available there.)

RPGIf you somehow missed the earlier post here, The Weird of Hali Companion is an encyclopedic guide to all the people, places, and (squamous, rugose) things in my epic fantasy with tentacles, The Weird of Hali, and the four additional novels set in the same eldritch cosmos.

I'm also delighted to report that sometime fairly soon I'll have another announcement to make, along similar lines, to the accompaniment of strange gibbering noises -- the image on the right may be considered a useful hint. Yes, the small print in red says Roleplaying the Other Side of the Cthulhu Mythos...

Congratulations and best wishes! May The Weird of Hali Companion have a cherished place next to The New Encyclopedia of the Occult in convenient spots near toilets everywhere! (...and I mean that as high praise!)

Incidentally, I need some help with a piece of WoH fanfic I'm contemplating. Is there a specific name by which the Renaissance-era incarnation of The Radiance was known, c. 1480-c. 1540? I seem to remember you giving a list of its monikers down through the centuries in one of the books, but sadly, due to an electronic snafu I no longer have my e-book files of the series and haven't yet re-purchased in paperback form.

Der Illuminati. Good. Doctor Faustus is going to tell his side of the story, which may or may not include a midnight meeting at a crossroads outside Heidelberg with a tall, mysterious looking man dressed in black, whose face seems vaguely Egyptian in the light of the full moon...

Awesome news! I intend to buy both as both ebooks and paperbacks.
As to the fanfiction poster, I'd love to read more tales set in the Haliverse.

Super excited

For me, this was a great post. First, the news about the Companion.

But what a great idea, I was really struggling trying to fit something into the WOH cycle itself and most everything was coming up lame. Then the kindly Mr. Anonymous pointed out that there is a lot of history that can be built onto. I think that I am going to re-read "The Name of the Rose" and ponder, or maybe even do some thinking about Inanna.

You know, that's hilarious that you mention Inanna, because almost immediately after coming up with the Faust idea, I thought to myself, "Now what if we go all the way back to some of the first civilizations that we know practiced what we now call 'occult practices'? Say, for instance, Egypt and Mesopotamia? Now, what would it look like if there were proto-Radiance elements back then and there that tried to stamp them out?" I must say, the image of a Sumerian Clark Noyes type being fried by Inanna gives me giggly goosey-pimples! Write it, Sir!!

Gilgamesh as the beginning of the Radiance since he is still pissed off about Inanna arranging for Enkidu to get snuffed?

BTW: I am weening myself off Amazon: Is there a way I can buy it direct. without corporate middlemen? A guy I read long ago did some pretty fine pieces on disintermediation.
