I was delighted to see the announcement, in Tom Murphy's
always-interesting sustainability blog Do The Math, of a newly founded network of professional scholars who are paying attention to the hard realities of planetary limits and sharing research on the predicament of industrial civilization. It's always a good sign when people from the academic community start organizing along those lines; with any luck this is the first of several such projects that can get useful information out of the academy and into the hands of those who can do something with it. I have no idea if they're smart enough to avoid becoming reliant on corporate funding sources who will pull the plug on them whenever they choose -- that's most of what happened to the peak oil movement a decade ago -- but here's hoping.
One way or another, the project deserves a signal boost. You can visit their (still very basic) website
here.
