The little booklet that came with my new deck implies that the deck's primitive artwork is consistent with older Tarot artwork, before the Rider/Waite deck gave vivid illustrations to all the cards. (It had never occurred to me that there could be such a major difference between two modern decks. I hadn't even bothered to read the Marseilles deck's little accompanying pamphlet on New Year's Eve.)
But the lack of flash could be a strength, too-- the first divinations I ever did, in college, were with the I Ching. And the vagueness of that oracle absolutely invites deep reflection.
No doubt, I now have at least 78 new themes for meditation. Thanks to all for your help and comments.
