A few days ago, my wife went to a seamstress who we didn’t know but who was strongly recommended by a friend. While visiting the seamstress, my wife noticed that the condo unit that she lived in was in decrepit condition. In the course of chatting with the seamstress, my wife found out several shocking things in a row like a series of hammer blows: (1) the family used to own and operate a restaurant but it went bankrupt due to the ‘medicine time’ closures; (2) due to the bankruptcy they had to sell their house and become renters in a substandard two-bedroom condo with $2,400/month rent; (3) during the long ‘cooties lockdown’ period in which medical clinics were closed, her diabetic husband developed gangrene and by the time it became obvious he had to get his leg amputated and now he is unemployed and practically unemployable. Now they live on the meagre earnings of the (fortunately talented and busy) seamstress wife. My wife came out from the visit with her head spinning: a neighbourhood family’s future virtually flushed down the toilet… and what for?
