Since I know nothing about your situation I can't even speculate. These days very few people know the first thing about spiritual or magical hygiene, and so most of us live in the spiritual equivalent of fetid, filthy, plague-ridden slums. Why your particular hovel is worse off than others, though, could be a result of many different causes.
