Discursive meditation is central to any form of mind training; also, concentration exercises are essential; Mouni Sadhu's book Concentration is a good source here. Beyond that, though, methods of training the mind depend on what you intend to do, and teaching yourself to build mathematical models isn't something occultists have put much time into, since mathematical models aren't especially useful to us!
Occult training of the mind tends to focus on developing psychism (paranormal abilities), developing intuition, and developing memory. For the first, W.E. Butler's How to See the Aura, Practice Psychometry, Telepathy, and Clairvoyance is the text I recommend. For the second, daily practice of divination using any oracle you like is the best way. For the third, Frances Yates' The Art of Memory is a good starting place.
