You're my mom's age, and the extent to which she is willing to discuss the matter is as a justification for why she started smoking so many cigarettes: "I'm in my 70s, my mom and her mom both died of strokes in their mid 70s so I may as well enjoy my Winstons and cheeseburgers!". Very much a fatalistic worldview.

My stepdad on the other hand is a bit more accepting of the notion, though he's not thrilled about it. His request is simply "when I die, tell people what happened to me. I don't wanna be vague and make people have to guess".

My stepmom is the classic "middle age starts at 60, old age is a myth" denialist.

My dad died a year ago and was convinced that covid was gonna kill him and basically became a shut-in the last three years of his life. Ironically his heart started giving him major problems right after the covid shots and neither he nor my stepmom particularly wanted to make the connection. He also told everyone that his "heart issues" were "a weird pneumonia thing" which I only found out to be false after he died. Not the most honest fellow...
