Welcome to non-duality. All is consciousness. There is no "in here" and "out there." It's not so much that the world is fake, nor that time is an illusion, it's that space and time are our limited way of understanding the reality of infinity and eternity, which we simply can't grasp at our level. This doesn't mean that we aren't "real" or that the world is a matrix-like illusion. The great Indian sage Nagarjuna put it best when he said "nothing is ultimately real, but everything is conventionally real." That is to say that we live in a world which is a collective construction, and is real within its own terms, but not ultimately real..
There's a wealth of mystic literature to wrap your neurones around, including Meister Eckhart in the western tradition. Mouni Sadhu (who was a student of Ramana Maharshi) wrote quite a bit about this, and Rupert Spira is a good modern interpreter in plain language.
It doesn't stop you being a better person: indeed experience suggests that it might actually help, because you realise that many of the things that make people behave badly (everything from material possessions to anger) have no ultimate existence.
