My contribution to this week's Frugal Friday is a forgotten resource: old home economics textbooks.
Back in the 19th century, as public schooling became standard, schools in a great many countries had to take over some of the work of teaching girls to be housewives. The result was a plethora of textbooks that cover most of what any homemaker (of either sex) needs to know in a low-tech home. Thanks to online archives, you can get quite a few of them free for the downloading these days. Here are seventy-odd examples:
Titles include Practical Homemaking: A Textbook for Young Housekeepers, Shelter and Clothing: A Textbook of the Household Arts, Home Nursing and Child Care, and many more.
