Well, the main component of gastric acid is hydrocloric acid. According to Wikipedia, our stomach is so acid (pH: 1.5-2.0) that our species' evolutionary path may have included a non trivial stint as scavengers. This is serious business and you can expect practically all flesh you eat to turn into a generic proteic soup. And all the inner lining of the tract consist of several layers of protective cells whose job is to keep stuff moving forwards and not spill around. Of course this can fail and does fail, but it is not as if this is the first time in the history of Animal kingdom that individuals have to survive consuming food of less than pristine quality.

Now, if you have some sort of lesion in the upper track of the digestive system (e.g. bad gums), you might be running some risk to exposure in that way.
