One of the great challenges in any syncretic system -- and the Picatrix is way up there on the syncretism scale -- is how you work out relations between the different orders of being that correspond to each of the core symbolic categories. By the time the Picatrix got put together, people in different schools of magic had long been invoking planetary angels, planetary gods, planetary spirits, planetary intelligences, etc., etc., and so it was a matter of figuring out how to include all of them.
2) Hmm! I hadn't heard the claim that Parsons was involved in that. Meade Layne, on the other hand, was up to his eyeballs in it; his was one of the groups that announced the imminent arrival of alien beings before the 1947 sightings began.
