Forgive me if this is not the right place for it, but now that I think of it, when I am content with a "how" answer is because I get satisfied with having heard an explanation but it doesn't do much of anything besides the feeling that I know something or on the best scenario, that I can fit a new experience in terms of such a model but that's about as much. If I go one step further and ask what for; it seems a little useless most of the time. That's kind of a weird and somewhat arbitrary habit of thought when used blindly, but I do it all the time!

"How" seems like a useful question for understanding models, theorems --or their physical counterparts, machines. If I may ask, then, what is the mode of understanding that makes it possible to perceive outside the world of models and thus create such things as magical and healing techniques?
