It's just past midnight, so we can proceed with a new Magic Monday. Ask me anything about occultism and I'll do my best to answer it. With certain exceptions, any question received by midnight Monday Eastern time will get an answer. Please note:  Any question received after then will not get an answer, and in fact will just be deleted. (I've been getting an increasing number of people trying to post after these are closed, so will have to draw a harder line than before.) If you're in a hurry, or suspect you may be the 143,916th person to ask a question, please check out the very rough version 1.0 of The Magic Monday FAQ here. Also: I will not be putting through or answering any more questions about practicing magic around children. I've answered those in simple declarative sentences in the FAQ. If you read the FAQ and don't think your question has been answered, read it again. If that doesn't help, consider remedial reading classes; yes, it really is as simple and straightforward as the FAQ says.

Today is the spring equinox here in the northern hemisphere, one of the holy days of the Druid calendar, and this is a photo of the spring equinox sunrise as seen from an ancient stone chamber at South Royalton, Vermont -- one of many astronomically oriented megalithic sites here in New England. This is a very weird question, but in high school one of my friends forgot his lunch, and jokingly offered his soul in exchange for some of mine. I gave it to him, and it became a weird inside joke. We were both atheists, although I'm not one anymore. I'm uncomfortable with the idea of owning someone's soul, especially someone I haven't talked to in many years. Is there a way to return this soul?

Yes, you can do this. If you're comfortable invoking a deity, the thing to do is to offer the soul as a gift to the deity and ask the deity to put it back where it belongs. Do this in prayer. That should take care of it.

If I don't have a relationship with a deity, how could I best proceed here?

In that case, since you don't expect to see the person again, there really isn't much you can do.

On second thought, I do actually have a relationship with deities. Although I don't pray as much as I probably should, I do planetary charity to good effect; would this be something to invoke Saturn for? Restoring the natural order and righting a wrong seems like something he'd support.

Yes, he'd be a very suitable god for this.
