Mother SerenaIt's a little after for midnight, so we can proceed with a new Magic Monday. Ask me anything about occultism and I'll do my best to answer it. With certain exceptions, any question received by midnight Monday Eastern time will get an answer. Please note:  Any question received after then will not get an answer, and in fact will just be deleted. I've been getting an increasing number of people trying to post after these are closed, so will have to draw a harder line than before.) If you're in a hurry, or suspect you may be the 143,916th person to ask a question, please check out the very rough version 1.0 of The Magic Monday FAQ hereAlso: I will not be putting through or answering any more questions about practicing magic around children. I've answered those in simple declarative sentences in the FAQ. If you read the FAQ and don't think your question has been answered, read it again. If that doesn't help, consider remedial reading classes; yes, it really is as simple and straightforward as the FAQ says.

The picture?  I'm working my way through photos of my lineage, focusing on the teachers whose work has influenced me. Before Sandra Tabatha Cicero, last week's honoree, became head of the Societas Rosicruciana in America, it had two heads, Lucia Grosch and Maria Babwahsingh, who functioned mostly in a caretaking capacity. Before them, the head of the order was Mother Serena, shown in the picture. Her real name was Gladys Plummer, and she was the wife of SRIA cofounder George Winslow Plummer; I have not been able to trace down many biographical details of hers, but she was much younger than her first husband. After his death, she and Stanislaus Witowski headed the order; they married, and she outlived him as well. Her "Lettergrams" and some of her essays are still available from the SRIA bookshop; they show her to be a perceptive mystic and occultist.

Shadow Work

Date: 2022-12-12 03:20 pm (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
Dear JMG,

Blessings to you and my fellow readers of this forum. After doing my daily practice, I draw a Major Arcana card. Recently, I’ve started to look at these in cycles of four. On Tuesday, I drew The Moon. On Wednesday, The Emperor. On Thursday and Friday, The Tower. My interpretation is that there is something I’m not seeing clearly (The Moon) about my ambitions (The Emperor) that, if unchecked, could lead to disaster (The Tower x 2). I would like to ask if you think this could refer to doing some kind of shadow work? I would also like to know if there any methods or books that you may recommend on this subject that is compatible with Golden Dawn magic.

Many thanks.

Is Santa real?

Date: 2022-12-12 03:33 pm (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
I realized last year that Santa or Father Christmas as a mythical cultural force, predates Christ, easily merged into Western Christian culture, and now several Asian cultures. He survived and thrived in the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, godless post war consumerism, "war on Christmas," and the current Woke Jacobin revolution alike. For thousands of years now, he has been inspiring parents to do his bidding at great personal cost, and children to give him their unswerving devotion.

Given that Magic is the art and science of changing consciousness in accordance with will, it seems that some powerful outside force has been doing just that, for the past several thousand years, with no threat from some of the most consciousness totalitarian, anti tradition, anti previous religion, and anti cultural norm forces that our species has encountered. Also I have noticed that his magic seems to bring not just joy, and peace (such as the 1914 Christmas eve armistice) as is advertised, but also a great, and often realized potential for grief, disappointment, and misery for those who don't yolo his bidding? So my questions are: 1. What is going on here, is this guy real? and 2. Do you have any sense if he is force is good or ill?

Just off the top of my head, it seems like Santa has characterises of both Jupiter and Saturn. He's jovial, like Jupiter, but concerned with giving you exactly what you deserve ("he knows when you've been bad or good"), like Saturn. Then there are the origins of Christmas partially lying in Saturnalia, of course.

Hello,

I'm wondering:
1. When I circulate the energy during the EOTCR, I'm under the impression it's supposed to run along my body's surface. But sometimes it seems to want to run in an ellipse around me, and sometimes it wants to leap in multiple bounces up my back. Should I force it to stay next to the surface, or let it run where it seems to want to go and just observe, and what does the weird leaping bounce mean?
2. In the Coelbren, the vowels' letter names seem to just be the sounds they make, so ah eh ee oh oo etc. Which of the Y sounds provides the name of that letter, or is there a workaround like with the Spanish "Greek I", or something else?
3. I'm pulling back from Christianity due to patriarchy emotional hooks, but it's leaving me leaving a meal blessing. In the CGD system, is there a particular divinity that makes the most sense to thank for the meal?

Thanks,
Heather

Hi JMG,

I live with my parents, and their bedroom is towards the west of the house. My dad is often still asleep when I perform the SoP in the morning. Obviously I don't want any of the banished energy to end up his way, so I have been using the phrase "I banish these things far away from this house", and visualise the banished unbalanced water energy heading towards the ocean, far away from the house. Does this sound like good practice to you?

Many thanks

It's been discussed here before, but given recent events, I wonder what JMG or the commentariat think about Kanye West's occult activity.

I have my own judgments of his recent words and actions, but based on some of the specific language I see him using, it feels like a magical working to try to "snap" as many people as possible out of the worst excesses of, for lack of a better term, the "woke mind virus."

That being said It also seems like he's bitten off more than he can chew. It seems messy, and I think his own distractions are evident in whatever it is he's doing. Perhaps he's influenced by his feelings on those who have wronged him in the past? Perhaps he has to psychologically get his own house in order before attempting something like this?

Essene Healing Hands Question

Date: 2022-12-12 04:53 pm (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
Dear JMG:

First off, thank you for Magic Mondays and for all you give us!

To my question, a couple of months ago, I tried doing Essene Healing Hands (as described in your Fellowship of the Hermetic Rose columns) for my father and my friend. I had of course asked both of them and they both gave their consent.

When doing the Essene Healing Hands, I would 'empower' and 'activate' them first thing in the morning, while I was still lying on my back in bed. The orientation of my hands relative to my body was still as described in the lectures, but the whole assemblage (me and my hands) was 90 degrees from the vertical.

I say "tried doing" because I wrestled with the imagery a little bit. For example, the red triangle kept wanting to be black, and I would have to bear down on my concentration to make sure it was red.

After a few weeks, I noticed that my friend's nose looked a bit discolored. I thought, 'maybe I am hurting him rather than helping', so I stopped, and have not done the Essene Healing Hands empowerment or activation since then. This was about a month and a half ago.

Now I notice, especially when I am lying on my back in bed or on the floor doing my stretches, that my hands, especially the right one, are energetically "noisy". I don't like to put them near my face or head, or even with my arms stretched out to the side even with my head. There seems to be some kind of energy flowing out of my hand(s), and when it goes into/through my head it feels "undesirable". Hands placed lower down, such as my left hand resting on my belly just above my pubic bone and the right hand resting around my solar plexus as I lie on my back, seems to be OK and in fact feels desirable.

I don't feel this energy flow from my hands when I am sitting or standing upright, and I hold my hands near my head.

Is this anything bad? Do I need to do something about it?

Thanks a lot,

Cicada Grove

Rose Cross Ritual

From: (Anonymous)
Hi JMG,

A bit over a week ago I woke up in the middle of the night with a strong feeling that I should commit myself to doing the Rose Cross Ritual every day for one year. This was odd because I hadn’t been thinking of such things at all recently. I needed confirmation that this was something that I really should do so I did a shield divination to answer the question of what would happen if I did the RCR every day for a year.

The result was RW: Fortuna Major, LW: Amissio, Judge: Carcer

Now at first glance that looked so negative I thought to drop the idea completely. Later I was thinking it over and what I’d written in my journal just before doing the divination. It was about the reasons I had to do the ritual being a way of purification and creating space to allow for spiritual growth. I have a very cluttered and chaotic mind which I believe is quite a hindrance to my spiritual development (it has its benefits, though, as I can be quite creative thanks to the jumble of ideas in my head). I also suffer with poor concentration.

Taking this into account, I considered, the divination could be interpreted to mean that I would lose the clutter and undergo purification. Still, I would really appreciate a second opinion before making such a commitment.

Thanks for any further insights.

The 11th house includes 'querent's hopes and wishes'. Is that be a generic, non-specific hope, or a hope that would be covered by another house? Like if I will get my 'dream job' or meet the woman of my dreams?

Thank you for all the work you do hosting this forum! I find it valuable every week.

1. If something like this can be answered in general terms, what would the effects of a daily banishing ritual be on someone living in the same space as the practitioner (roommate or significant other) whose influence is ultimately harmful to practitioner?

2. Would it make any difference if the practitioner knows the other person was a harmful influence on their life or not?

This is assuming that no harmful magic has been used and the practice is not being done in secret or in an improper context

Thanks!

Hi JMG,

I'm wondering if you (or your readers) might have any insight into the occult origins or symbolism behind a particular icon in upstate NY. The icon is a red terra cotta face on the north-facing gable of the chapel on the former campus of the Roycroft community (photo available here: https://roycroftcampuscorporation.typepad.com/roycroftcampuscorporation/2014/03/a-chapel-detail.html).

It's come to be called "the north wind" and rumored to have been designed by the illustrator WW Denslow, who spent time in the Roycroft community. The Roycroft itself was founded by Elbert Hubbard, a kind of a dilettante who made a lot of money in the soap business and launched an arts and crafts community outside of Buffalo inspired by William Morris. Hubbard himself absolutely had some occult interests and he founded Roycroft in the wake of the second great awakening that burned through Western NY.

I swear I've seen a similar image in some of my readings on the occult online but have lost track of where. I'm wondering if the image itself or its placement and context ring any chimes for you?

there's a little mistake in the OP. She married Stanislaus Witowski, not Wotowski. Stanisław Antoni Wotowski was polish occultist, author and detective that probably died in the first days of WWII. Also he allegedly started polish interbellum version of satanic panic to discredit Czesław Czyński(i always feel weird when i write polish words and names and i don't conjugate them).

1.
A lot of times people ask about making mantras that affirm the negative and normally you recommended against it? Would a good example of the be to try and reciet the mantra “don’t swallow” or “don’t focus on your breath”?
2.
Would an effective way to offer someone a blessing during a blessing walk or otherwise, be to send green light from my heart center towards them? If not, what would an effective blessing be to offer during the walk? I would like to do more then recite the words.

Didn't you have a recent separate thread on people from late 19th- early 20th Cen who were more or less "cancelled" and disappeared from the general view for being interested in the occult? Tarot

JMG and commentariat,

I have been trying to learn divination using Tarot for a while now, I have worked my way through the authors I am aware of, Eden Gray, Dion Fortune, Gail Fairfield, and others and have settled for the time being on Robert Wang's Quabalistic Tarot.

I have two nagging question that keep surfacing, first is the source of power behind the way the cards show up. None of the authors I have read seem to address this. I do my best to shuffle the cards to randomness, yet the results seem anything but random. Am I simply being fooled? is my subconscious somehow influencing them ? The Astral Light ?

The second question is interpretation, I find the more recent authors to be too "squishy" for my taste, the 'whatever you want the cards to mean" approach while the Golden Dawn and older traditions seem to take a more "fire and brimstone" approach that implies "hard"implications that you are stuck with.

I have found Wang's book to be the most thorough discussion of the Quabala and Tree of Life i have found yet, but in the chapter on divination he uses the golden Dawn interpretations of the cards.

any comments or insight will be most appreciated.

That is an interesting reading Happy Panda. Do the tarot say something about who did the NS-pipeline attacks? Russia accused the UK, and it seems not unlikely as Sweden, Denmark and Germany refuse to share the evidence they have. If it were Russia, the evidence would have been shared on all media.

I also saw Boris Johnson recently state that Germany was hoping for Russia to overrun Ukraine and Italy also being against the war, but the UK was adamant in shoring up Ukrainian resistance. I don't believe anything Johnson says at face value, but this had a ring of truth to it. I wonder if the UK 'helped' Germany to keep towing the partyline (with the nod of US of course)

I have done a small Y/N reading for the above question.

I turned over The World-Nataraja(B) upright. So yes, my interpretation of the card says that the UK was directly responsible for the damage to the NS-Pipeline. My further divinations show the Russians have evidence the UK did it (they almost certainly did it with the U.S.'s blessing). Only later I noted on the web the Russians claim they have hacked, darkweb cellphone conversations between certain UK politicians admitting to the success of the UK's NS-Pipeline attack plans.

Anyway...as I said, I turned over The World-Nataraja.

This card is one of 2 unique versions of the World card in Sri Arya's Marseille deck (the other being The World-Maha Shakti). A large number of my divinations have been turning over this particular card, Nataraja. I think this may be in reference to what Sadhguru said he saw in Samadhi - that a "major disaster" had happened there - on the higher, subtle planes and it was going to hit the material plane within 2-4 years (I believe he said that in 2019 or early 2020 during one of his satsangs).

So here we are: The World-Nataraja

Just to make it clear:

The World - Nataraja is the premier card of the deck of accelerated karma - in this case, karmic blowback. The Pillar of Severity is activating. In some spreads I've also turned over the Justice card too so the Planes are busy re-balancing. One of those re-balance mechanisms is via Nataraja, accelerated karmic blowback.

Now I read today on Zerohedge that the U.S. has quit telling the Ukrainians to avoid targeting anything deep inside Russian territory. My earlier divinations - and Armstrong's Socrates program - is indicating something is going to blow skyhigh in January. I took it to be financial but I admit now I'm nervous it may be geopolitically dreadful instead.

The difference from last MM is that I'm now perplexed a bit as to what my cards are indicating. I'm turning over The World-Nataraja to an insanely high degree for a lot of my spreads. Often for things that have nothing to do at all with the NATO-Russia Proxy War in Ukraine.

That tells me that what happens in January is finally showing up from a disaster that has already happened on the subtle planes. The gale winds finally pick up speed in 2023. Armstrong is shrieking on his blog constantly that Socrates is indicating wider-scale war is coming (alongside mass civilian uprisings and rebellions against their own governments on every continent, U.S., UK and EU included) to whip around the world. He keeps saying Socrates is indicating 2023 is, "The Year from Hell."

Certainly my somewhat scary recurrence of The World-Nataraja keeps turning over despite my best efforts at shuffling, splitting, re-shuffling,re-splitting, etc and despite completely different questions. I see that as Sadhguru is right. 2023 is the year the disaster he saw on the subtle planes begins finally showing up at gale force on our material one.

He also said this gale force disaster is oddly a time of incredible opportunity to reach spiritual heights for magic and spiritual practitioners as the whole solar system is moving and shifting into a new arrangement on the subtle planes.

He likened it to a heavy, strong wind filling all the sails of a clipper ship. Spiritual practitioners will accomplish in weeks or months what normally could take years or a decade to achieve otherwise because the solar system is adding its own movement to your own efforts. Sri Arya's deck indicates this also. Some tarot cards are especially good for rising spiritually and magically. Typically - though not always - if a card indicates detrimental situations on the material plane it's also a good indication of auspiciousness for more spiritual or magic oriented pursuits.

Since 2023-2024 are in detriment on the physical plane the auspiciousness indicated for subtler plane practices will be unusually amazing.

Two other interesting tarot turn-overs.

I asked Y/N about the root cause for UK elite's hatred of Russia.

Result: The Empress R - the card of devastation, pillaging, looting, profound grinding poverty, etc. So yes, I think my hunch that it is past life related is correct. I can't ever remember the UK having been invaded, pillaged and looted by Russia. I can't even remember any UK colonies being treated as such by Russia. But something is 're-balancing'. UK elites want payback for what Russia dished out in an earlier life. The problem with this is JMG's raspberry jam principle. It will simply set up the conditions for Russian elites to do the same back to the UK sometime later - either in this lifetime or possibly future ones. And if Russia did this to them in a past life, that means at least some UK elites must have done equal atrocities to Russians in past lives. So nobody is really clean and saintly in this exchange from a karmic cycle viewpoint.

I asked the same question for U.S. elites.

Result: 7 of Cups - the card of dreaming about endless options. Greedy Dreaming to put it succinctly. This is why most of the U.S.'s elites cards vis-a-vis Russia are never as dark as with the UK. Basically U.S. elites are in it for plundering Russia's resources. Plain old-fashioned greed is what's driving them.

Heart Health and Magic

Hello. I have been working with Learning Ritual Magic/Paths of Wisdom/Circles of Power set of studies. I follow the Levi tarot studies/meditations. I have been performing the basics - banishing, middle pillar exercises, meditations, and exercises from LRM. I wanted to continue with the celtic golden dawn once I finish with this program.

I am almost 60 and have heart health issues. In a previous MM, you mentioned that people with these kinds of issues probably should not follow this path due to heart reasons. Should I change my course of studies and try Druidry instead? I would be keen to delve into this path, but I'm not sure if I should switch to a different set of studies just now.

Your guidance would be very much appreciated!

1) Planetary charity is something I see talked about here all the time. Where would you recommend someone get an introduction so I could learn a bit more about what you all are talking about?

2) Someone earlier asked about "planetary gifts." Can something similar happen with the elements?

I'm currently going through a rough patch (break up of a long relationship, thankfully amicable but still not fun,) and in one of my recent meditations I noticed some really intense ideas, related to fire, just "clicking."

The best way to describe them was an idea of a "constant phoenix." Life is a chain of moments and every moment is rebirth. It's scary but unavoidable. Amazing advice for someone in my situation.

I should also note when I meditate about the elements Fire has always been the most foreign to me. Perhaps there's some sort of elemental imbalance in me and someone is trying to coax me out of my comfort zone.

3) Assuming the above is some form of yes, how should I send out gratitude for what happened?

4) I was too late to share this on last week's post, but wanted to share my experience with the commenter who was asking about "charismatic etheric megafauna" (LOVE that term btw!)

I don't actively work on my clairvoyance beyond a standard meditation/SOP, but think my recent high emotions may have opened me up to these experiences. While in my not-wanting-to-leave-bed phase of the breakup I sensed a giant floating jellyfish hanging out around me. The way it shimmered made it seem like it was made out of broken stained glass. It didn't seem like it was interacting with me (either offering comfort or "feeding" on my energy.) It just seemed slightly curious.

I share the other commenter's trepidation about wanting to donate my etheric body to the megafauna rather than the slugs. I just wish I had more skill in any visual art to show what I saw, it was majestic!

A quick question - I'm doing one transformation a day in the OSA Temple of Solomon Companion work and #20 seems to be missing. It went 19 to 21 and I checked there were no duplicated of the other numbers. I emailed this morning around 4:30am eastern when I discovered it but haven't heard back. Was hoping to keep the momentum of doing one a day, so is there a #20 or is this something for me to figure out? Thank you!
