That's the old "changeling" tradition updated for a new era. One thing to keep in mind when dealing with these entities: they very, very rarely tell us the truth about anything. (And of course with UFOs, you've got the US military lying itself blue in the face to cover up their aerospace technology testing, so you've got two utterly unreliable sources feeding into the mess!)
