I attended a fairly prestigious, Evangelica seminary. While I was there I met a man who was hearing voices that he thought were from God. I tried to talk to some of peers and professors about this. Almost every single one of them was totally uncomfortable even considering the possibility of demonic activity. It was literally easier to talk to atheists about the possibility that the things Jesus was battling in the New Testament might be real. I have no problem believing that modern day theology has completely lost its ability to do spiritual warfare.

To further support your theory, its interesting that the places that went off the deep end are mostly places with the dead relics of the church. African nations did not drink the vaccine cool aid. Neither did Russia with its recent religious revival. But France? Australia? The secular blue portions of America? These are all places that had a spiritual tradition and by and large left it behind without replacing it with anything.
