Happy Birthday fellow Second Decan Geminian!

It looks like Thursday is going to be a big day for us. Hopefully it works out for the best.

Following the Celtic Golden Dawn instructions for the Bardic grade I ordered the herbs online and when the southernwood first arrived I tried making some tea which had a mellow flavor and helped me sleep at night. It turns out there was not enough for both parts of the spyragic tincture, just the alcohol, so I ordered some more from Europe which was a lot cheaper. When I made the tea from the second source it was shockingly bitter, and I figured they accidentally gave me wormwood, so I ordered more from a third source and got the same results.

Is southernwood ridiculously bitter? My research online is inconclusive which makes me wonder if the original package was something else and it would be preferable to start a fresh batch of tincture. I have two kilos now, and burned some to get the flies out of the kitchen which worked really well.

Artemisias, like other herbs, vary in their bitterness due to growing conditions. Your first batch was probably a strain that's been bred for tea or flavoring. I'd say go ahead and use the tincture you've made.
