creation of the worldIt's getting on for midnight, so we can proceed with a new Magic Monday. Ask me anything about occultism and I'll do my best to answer it. Any question received by midnight Monday Eastern time will get an answer. (Any question received after then will not get an answer, and will likely just be deleted.) If you're in a hurry, or suspect you may be the 143,916th person to ask a question, please check out the very rough version 1.0 of The Magic Monday FAQ here.

I've had several people ask about tipping me for answers here, and though I certainly don't require that I won't turn it down. You can use the button above to access my online tip jar. If you're interested in political and economic astrology, or simply prefer to use a subscription service to support your favorite authors, you can find my Patreon page here and my SubscribeStar page here.

Bookshop logoI've also had quite a few people over the years ask me where they should buy my books, and here's the answer. Bookshop.org is an alternative online bookstore that supports local bookstores and authors, which a certain other gargantuan corporation doesn't, and I now have a shop there, which you can check out here. Please consider patronizing it if you'd like to purchase any of my books online.

And don't forget to look up your Pangalactic New Age Soul Signature at CosmicOom.com.

With that said, have at it!

***This Magic Monday is now closed. See you next week!***

Thanks for the reply JMG.

4) I hadn't even though about that haha. I had been operating as me always being the unmoving center between the directions. But of course, in the material world, we're always in relation to something or someone.

So that's very I interesting. Using that same concept, the Abrahamics stand in the west, associated with Gabriel, Mercury and Water when looking to the east. I cant pinpoint why that feels important but it gives more opportunities to meditate on it. Have there ever been SoP recommendations where you've advised someone to start looking northward or westward based on their pantheon?

5) Sounds like a good mentor! What other non-occult books did he recommended for that?

How does ritual support a change in consciousness? Rituals feel very odd to me because I grew up in a Southern Baptist church were ritual was deliberately minimized and faith was considered of primary importance. I think Baptist feel that ritual is an outward display that might hide lack of faith, or maybe they fear people will put faith in the ritual rather than God.

Don’t know what JMG will recommend; but if you wish to perform a service deed, you could set up a blogspace to handhold a few of us unpublished folks and shepherd us as we attempt to reach the enviable position you yourself have achieved! Feels gloomy and sad and other unpleasant emotions for those of us who are floundering in the wilderness of options that self-publishing has grown into. Or if that is too much work, put in a good word of prayer for us to the Muses and Mercury or to Whomever guided you to our present level of success. Turn that dark energy around and shine your Light on us! (Pretty please.)

1) Thank you.

2) The fault is mine, but thank you for the clarification. I was not aware that would constitute practicing medicine without a license, and will not ask such questions in the future.

I've studied Japanese and so far all the ones that have come up have related to their translations.

What, I wonder, is the motivation in doing that? Is it because the myth of progress implies that couldn't have possibly lived a successful life in that time period on account of their orientation and therefore, since they were successful, they must have been straight?

Sorry for the confusion!

Invoking form of the Ritual of the pentagram, drawn from the top point of the pentagram to the bottom right point. Top to bottom left for the banishing version.

When I perform the IROP (Invoking/Summoning ritual of the pentagram) I feel especially when I am calling the elemental guardians I am bringing the cross of the elements within the circle of spirit. Which is the symbol associated with Muner in the Aurea Catena Homerii Tree of Life.

When I do banishing form of the ritual of the pentagram, I feel as though I am centering the space in Naf, because it feels as an empty circle to me. Possibly with the cross emerging from the circle, as in the Aurea Catena Homerii Naf symbol.

Does that clarify things? Anything else still confusing?

Dear John,

- What is the spiritual significance of Sirius in Hermetic and Masonic symbolism? And what is the role of the stars on us in contrast to the main seven luminaries of our solar system? (I've also come across this pic recently but couldn't trace its source, it caught my attention because it had a sigil of the Dog Star): https://ibb.co/sHWSDZh

- The LBRP is usually mentioned as a "banishing" ritual, but some refer to it as an invocation, what do you think?

Cheers,

Not JMG but I felt inclined to offer my comments.

As JMG has said a few times, the problem with East-West hybrids comes from the energetic anatomy of the subtle bodies and how these two traditions move energy in the body, as they do so differently. If you mess up with these energies badly enough people can get seriously injured, sicken and die. So, for example I wouldn't combine a routine that involves kundalini with magical traditions that use energy methods like the Middle Pillar. We don't know yet what causes this imbalance but it does happen.

That said, I wouldn't discard asana to be completely safe either, as they are meant to be done in particular sequences for specific purposes but I have found the general sequences that strengthen the whole body to be ok, but that is just my case. Pranayama is a different story, the only ones I've tried safely is deep breathing and the alternate nostril breathing that usually goes by the name nadi shuddhi as these also have balance and overall wellbeing as a goal. Things more complicated and specific than that I wouldn't mess with, with the exception of devotionals, while pursuing a western approach but I would say even that can create inconveniences if you are putting a lot of time into these things in some cases. Knowing what evolved from culture and tradition and what is more free-form from something that takes centuries to develop is quite tricky! And I am not convinced it is possible at all.
