"They further saw the King of the Earth sink, and heard him cry out in an eager voice, 'Whoever saves me shall live and reign with me forever in my brightness on my royal throne,' and night enveloped all things. [...] Meaning, in this masterly art: 'Deprive the thing of its destructive moisture, and renew it with its own essential one which will become its perfection and life.'"
The image is the seventh illustration from Splendor Solis. It shows, in the distance, an old king in the water, struggling and crying out to be saved. In the foreground stands a young king in a golden robe bathed in the light of the sun and a brilliant star.

My guess is that you will suggest holding off on the astrological magic class until after my Bardic initiation, but between the other courses and all the rest of the preparation I have to do that should not be a problem. Are there any conflicts?
Thanks and enjoy your January, although I will miss the regular Cosmic Doctrine discussion very much.

From:Dolmen Arch Enchanting
Date: 2020-12-28 07:55 pm (UTC)As part of wrapping up my work with the final grade of the Dolmen Arch, I'm planning an enchantment for my girlfriend. She and I have decided on enchanting a pair of her earrings to help her love herself.
I'm trying to settle on a wording for the intention. The two versions I'm considering are "that [girlfriend's name] love herself" or "that [girlfriend's name] realize her self-love." Do you see any obvious advantage to one over the other?
Also, it occurred to me that the earrings may catch a bit of sunlight as they're worn. Is this something I should be concerned about? We've chosen the earrings because she never takes them off.
Thanks!

Astrology - mundane and natal
Date: 2020-12-28 09:01 pm (UTC)2) Any advice on how to handle other peoples natal charts? I'm currently working on mine and I admit I'm a little bit shaken by the accuracy and directness of what it has to say. I've printed out the natal charts of my children but have not yet looked at them. I'm not sure if it would be wise of me to take a deeper look. One part is whether I can handle the information without being negatively influenced. Ok, only I can assess this. But then - what can I possibly find there that I can't see otherwise but would be beneficial for my children that justifies this "intrusion"?
Thank you! And have good time during your January break!

Re: Astrology - mundane and natal
Date: 2020-12-28 10:24 pm (UTC)Once on the subject of finding the time of birth for someone whose birth time was unknown, it was mentioned that major illnesses could be seen in the charts and worked backwards from to determine the birth time.
As a mother, it seems to me that a warning that a child may suffer a serious illness during a particular year would be well worth being aware of, being perhaps a little more proactive in taking the temperature of a grumpy child, heading to the doctor a few hours sooner, pushing harder for tests, and so on, rather than the default Yet Another Cold assumption most non-hypochondriac parents operate on when a child is out of sorts.
Anything of that general nature of life events that may be seen in the charts would be an aid to parenting and planning in general. If you see illness or injury, for example, you might up your HSA contribution rather than your IRA.

Began meditation in mid 70's with TM and it's 'not so secret' mantra. From then till present I have always sat in a chair and kept my feet on the ground, however not always with back unsupported and also not relaxing the body top-down. Following your DM phases (another thank you) I had no idea my posture and general well-being would be so grateful.
For the past year I have been learning the exercises and practicing the concepts of Jin Shin Jyutsu (JSJ), using the hands and breath to balance life energy. Using the specific hand/finger hold (each finger left/right alternately) prior to DM and your instructions, my body sits quite relaxed and yet alert. If you have knowledge of JSJ, do you have any insights to offer me regarding using DM and JSJ together?
For the family of commenters here, this community often puts me in mind of having a pot luck dinner with y'all, so thank you also.

To my surprise, and especially with the planets more easily visualised (Saturn for example) this produced a trembling and shaking and release of tension in the muscles. I presume this is harmless and may even be beneficial. But is it normal, and can you advise on what may be going on? Thank you.

I understand they’re drawn from astrology, so I’ve explored general overviews that treat the houses as part of a general study of astrology (so the treatment of all topics tends to be cursory). What I am looking for is material that goes deeper. Particularly theory if it is available.

Date: 2020-12-28 11:08 pm (UTC)1. You've said before, while practicing magic over the long term, to watch out for health effects, or watch for worsening health problems that don't seem to have physical causes. I do have some health problems that have worsened over the last year, but I'm pretty sure these have physical causes, but of course I'd like to make sure. Aside from stopping magical practice completely, is there a way to test this?
2. Is there a way to tell when you have fully banished an element properly while doing the SOP? I've been doing the SOP for almost 2 years now, but the thought occurred that I need to pay more attention to doing this after an event occurred doing the Grove Ceremony for Alban Arthuan. I use our dining room for my magical practice because it is mostly unused, and not too long after the closing of the Grove Ceremony, my wife and I had an argument while eating in that room, and she was unusually emotional. This led me to believe that I had not fully grounded the nwyfre from the ceremony, and that she was affected by it (although that could have been tension leading up to the Grand Conjunction on the same day).
The experience has made me realize I may have to pay more attention to the banishing of the elements in the SOP as well.
3. I am reading Dion Fortune's Psychic Self Defence, and just finished the chapter discussing the pitfalls of ceremonial magic, and positive and negative evil. I am working with the DMH, and haven't had much experience with the Qabalah. I know enough about it to know about the ten spheres, and that the Wheel of Life in the DMH fulfils a similar role as the Tree of Life, but with a different structure. Her discussion of the 10 Infernal Emanations (the Qlippoth) which exist as opposites to the 10 Spheres of the Tree was interesting, and got me thinking about whether there was an equivalent mechanism at work in the Stations of the Wheel of Life.
My first thought was that it could have to do with the double cycle, with Stations rotating through the solar and telluric realms, between the manifested world of our experience and the spirit world of Annwn. Of course I will meditate on it, but I'd be grateful if you could throw a few hints my way!
Thank you very much once again!

Date: 2020-12-28 11:56 pm (UTC)2) It takes a lot of practice to develop the ability to sense energies. Concentrate more while doing the banishing, and pay attention to the way the room feels when you're done.
3) Each station of the Wheel has its balanced and unbalanced form, and it can be helpful to meditate on each station and try to understand what its energies are like when they're in balance with the others, and when they're out of balance and disruptive. Start there, and see where your meditations take you.

Date: 2020-12-28 11:09 pm (UTC)Over the span of a few months, a close friend into Hindu spirituality, a 14 y/o girl into Islamic prayer, and two devout Christian acquaintances have confided that they have started seeIng the number 11:11 (sometimes with other variations of 11, 9/11, 3/11, 7/11 etc) all the time. On clocks, registration plates, bill boards, times of text messages or phone calls, etc etc. A google search suggests that this is a reasonably frequent occurrence and various theories are suggested.
In your opinion, what could this phenomenon possibly mean? In general, as well as for the individuals experiencing it.
Thank you again for being a great teacher.

Date: 2020-12-28 11:21 pm (UTC)I am looking for information and/or experience in ending or dissolving entities that were ritually created with my and my wife's lifeforce and body parts in a past life. Due to how much these entities are affecting our present life and our 3 children, I am hesitant to mention any details in a comment over the internet. I am hoping you have relevant information and/or know someone who knows how to help in such a critical situation. I have been searching for this information for the last month or so, and no one seems to know what I am talking about other than to mention that it seems like a Golem creation. I am turning to you because of my vast respect for your work over the years, and I literally don't know who else to ask. My wife and I live in southern Appalachia, and have experience in dealing with intense spiritual matters, but we have never come across a situation specifically like this.
Any help, information or contact info for someone with experience in these matters would be very much be appreciated.

From:Gods again
Date: 2020-12-28 11:38 pm (UTC)Last week I asked about working with Tolkein's gods, thanks for the answers.
I guess I have a more general question, how would I know which gods to engage with? To reference in the sphere of protection or to celebrate the seasonal cycle? There seem to be a lot of possibilities, and to me they are mostly equally dry and abstract ideas.
That is to say, I don't have emotional resonance or interaction with any gods except for precisely two (emotionally intense) times in my life. Although, I cannot now recall which of these incidents came first.
One time was during my druid self initiation ceremony, I became aware of a female prescence who didn't stay long and spoke precisely four words to me. She wasn't embodied, and didn't leave me with a name. She was definitely closely associated with the living, natural world.
The other time was on a flight in to Hong Kong during a typhoon (hurricane). We had circled out at sea for about 90 minutes waiting for the weather to calm down before landing. On approach we were tossed about quite violently before the captain aborted the attempt about 150 feet off the ground. I can still remember clearly the engines winding back up to full throttle and the lane climbing back up through the tempest, deadly silence from the crew.
It wasn't until we'd gained about 5000 feet and headed back out to sea that the captain announced "don't worry, we have enough fuel to go around again". I suppose that was meant to be reassuring but for me it had the opposite effect. You're probably aware that aircraft carry a contingency of extra fuel, which would have already burned most of circling over the south china sea for over an hour. What would happen if we were unable to land again? It was at that point that I was genuinely terrified for the first and only time in my life. I prayed to whoever I thought might be able to help - Jesus, Allah, Thor, and GuanYin. As we aproached the airport, the weather cleared and we landed in perfect calm.
It felt like we were helped that night, but no-one "put their hand up', so to speak. I like to imagine that GuanYin intervened with Thor on our behalf, because it sure felt like he had intended to smash us to bits.
So that's what I have: bits and pieces from very different traditions on an atheistic background. An intellectual acceptance of gods and spirits, limited and somewhat incoherent experience. No-one that I'm confident in naming.
Any advice?
Thanks,
Graeme

How does a New Thought school compare to Druidry or the Golden Dawn tradition? Does the New Thought school such as the Order of Essenes not practice ritual magic and more focus on personal development? I have seen reference to training in ritual magic being based on the three daily activities of ritual practice (eg SOP), divination and meditation. Are these elements all present on the New Thought schools?

Re: Astrology
Date: 2020-12-29 12:19 am (UTC)Transits
Date: 2020-12-28 11:55 pm (UTC)This process is very time-consuming and I hope to get an ephemeris and a book on transits as soon as the Federal Money Faeries send me my stimulus check, should I be so fortunate. In the meantime, I will set forth here my modus operandi, and if so inclined perhaps you might be kind enough to let me know if I am going seriously off the rails anywhere.
1. By hand I've drawn three charts of my horoscope. (a) The first shows all my transits, including favorable aspects to all planets other than malefics, as well as conjunctions, and the same for the Ascendant, Midheaven, and conjunctions to the Head of the Dragon. (b) The second chart shows all unfavorable aspects to malefics, conjunctions included. Based on information found online, I use an orb of 4 degrees before and after the exact position of a malefic planet to preclude that region as a beneficial location for a transit. (c) The third chart shows the transits in the first chart, but with all the afflicted positions in the second chart subtracted from them, so that only beneficial transits are displayed. (d) It so happens that two of my natal benefics are opposed to one another, so conjunction to either of them I do not consider as a usable transit, since that necessarily involves opposition to the other; whereas positions sextile or trine to them I consider usable. (e) I assume that only conjunctions by a benefic planet are beneficial; in the case of other non-malefic bodies, such as the Moon or Mercury, I assume that only sextiles or trines produced by them are beneficial.
2. I am uncertain about the following points. (a) Is the Head of the Dragon an appropriate celestial feature for transits? If so, would that be for conjunctions only, or for angular aspects as well? (b) I assume the Ascendant and Midheaven are usable for transits, including for conjunctions if the conjoining body be a benefic. (c) Does combustion apply to transits?(i) If today's Sun conjoins a natal planet, is that planet thereby combust, or is this a beneficial transit, since the Sun is a benefic? (ii) What about a situation in which a (current day) benefic or other planet conjoins my natal Sun? Is it thereby combust? (d) Are conjunctions by the Moon beneficial, or of no value? In this case, does it matter whether a natal planet so conjoined is benefic or not?
3. My richest cluster of transits is located early in Aquarius. They are all aspects, not conjunctions. Just now Saturn is in that region, and I believe is likely to spoil my lunar and solar transits in that region thoughout the coming year. Do I infer correctly that this is the case? Does the proximity of a present malefic bollux up transits aspecting one's natal planets?
4. (a) What about separating aspects? Are those usable? I gather that transits are usable within an orb of one degree. Is this only until the moment of perfection, or can one still derive advantage for one degree thereafter? I am guessing that applying transits are preferable, but that separating ones are still acceptable if for some reason one cannot use the applying one. Is this indeed the case? (b) I am guessing that the transit is most powerful the closer we get to perfection, and weaker as it tapers off, especially after perfection. Is this correct?
As mentioned, I mean to get a book on transits when I can; it will probably be the one by Robert Hand. Can you recommend a good ephemeris, hopefully not too expensive?
Thank you so much for these magical counsels. May you have an excellent and refreshing druidical respite from your labors.
Kevin
Re: Transits
Date: 2020-12-29 12:25 am (UTC)As for the rest -- good gravy, it would take me half an hour to respond to each of these individually, and most of what I would say would be on the order of "experiment and find out." The one thing I'll say is that it's crucial not to assume that the malefics are always bad. A trine or sextile involving Saturn or Mars can be very favorable indeed.

Date: 2020-12-29 12:16 am (UTC)Just as a follow-up to your brilliant analysis of the Middle Conjunction of last week, I'm curious to hear your thoughts as to how this epochal shift might affect higher education generally and the humanities specifically. Since this is my own line of work as a historian of the occult, I was delighted to hear that matters Neptunian and Venereal should boom, and without Mongol-style war and universal plague as catalyst this time around.
With respect to the east coast of the US in particular, however, the ninth house is occupied only by the Sun-Mercury conjunction, with Venus in the late seventh house and Neptune in the late eleventh. What would you say this portends for the survival of some remnant of the university system here? From what I've seen, there is currently a surprising if quiet upsurge of interest even in respectable corners of the academy in the study of consciousness -- and the humanities (particularly history of religion and history of art) are precisely a record of that, magically expressed or otherwise. In other words, do you think going whole hog in this Neptunian-Venereal direction is the best way for American academics to try to weather the decline of empire and the advent of the new age?
Thanks as always for MM, and enjoy the break!
(no subject)
Date: 2020-12-29 12:46 am (UTC)Where you are, the cusp of the 9th house of higher education is in Capricorn, and Saturn is therefore its ruler. Saturn's essentially dignified by term and receives a great deal of help from a conjunction with Jupiter and a sextile with the Moon, so I think there's a good chance that enough support will be found to keep at least some of the universities in your part of the country open. The older and better established schools (Saturn) will do better, of course, than others. Uranus in the 12th is also weaker than elsewhere -- in DC it's in the 1st, which portends serious unrest. You're going to need to get to work lobbying state and federal governments, though (Saturn in the 10th house of government) because their support will be crucial.
as for the Neptunian-Venerean direction, since neither of those planets is in aspect to the ruler of your house, that's a crapshoot. Still, it's doubtless worth trying.

I was wondering why mundane astrology has fallen by the wayside and I think it's because of people like Carter who can't see the obvious due to their own biases.
