Magic Monday

It's getting on for midnight, so we can proceed with a new Magic Monday. Let's start things out with a bit of alchemical text from the Splendor Solis, the most gorgeously illustrated of all the old alchemical texts: 

 

"They further saw the King of the Earth sink, and heard him cry out in an eager voice, 'Whoever saves me shall live and reign with me forever in my brightness on my royal throne,'  and night enveloped all things. [...] Meaning, in this masterly art:  'Deprive the thing of its destructive moisture, and renew it with its own essential one which will become its perfection and life.'" 

 

The image is the seventh illustration from Splendor Solis. It shows, in the distance, an old king in the water, struggling and crying out to be saved. In the foreground stands a young king in a golden robe bathed in the light of the sun and a brilliant star.

Thank you for this opportunity JMG. And apologies if you have already answered this question at another time and I missed it.

Over the span of a few months, a close friend into Hindu spirituality, a 14 y/o girl into Islamic prayer, and two devout Christian acquaintances have confided that they have started seeIng the number 11:11 (sometimes with other variations of 11, 9/11, 3/11, 7/11 etc) all the time. On clocks, registration plates, bill boards, times of text messages or phone calls, etc etc. A google search suggests that this is a reasonably frequent occurrence and various theories are suggested.

In your opinion, what could this phenomenon possibly mean? In general, as well as for the individuals experiencing it.

Good question. There was quite a bit of hoopla a few years back when some New Age types proclaimed that the New Age would finally dawn, or something like that, at 11:11 pm on November 11, 2011 (11/11/11). Of course nothing happened, but that may have stirred up some synchronicity and caused people to start noticing such things.

When I was growing up, it was common knowledge among kids that you make a wish if you look at the clock and it's 11:11 (along with other magical kid practices like lifting your feet off the floor and touching a screw when the schoolbus goes over railroad tracks; or holding your breath when you go past the graveyard.)

I had an obsession with 11:11 in the early 80s. Not seeing it coincidently but making use of it - going to bed at 11:11.

In central Europe, 11:11 a.m. on November 11 is the "official" beginning of carnival, for what it's worth - though actual parties only start at the end of January or beginning of February.
