Ah, but here's the thing. Sodium chloride is (no pun intended) rock solid stable. If you drop it in water or expose it to sunlight, it does not change chemically. It does not release either element of it's constituency into the environment. Chlorine dioxide, if exposed to sunlight, releases chlorine gas. It is also a form of bleach, so naturally highly toxic. Big difference.
Now, I am not a biologist and I have only retained a rudimentary knowledge of chemistry (took a few honours-level courses in highschool and university), so I cannot presume to comment on the body's chemical processes, much less how the body might react to it.
What I do know is that humans have a disturbing tendency to take a little incomplete knowledge and turn it into pseudoscience. We embrace fads based on anecdotal evidence, creating a story that the focus of the fad does things it may not actually do. This was once referred to as quackery.
Myself, I am also uncomfortable with the fact that these so-called miracle cures do not occur naturally in nature. They have to be manufactured by chemists. The chemical industry, of which Big Pharma can arguably be considered to be a part, benefits as much from our consumption of these chemicals as they do of "tested" pharmaceuticals.
I prefer to stick with tried-and-true healing philosophies that pre-date the modern compartmentalized scientific approach and have stood the test of time.
