As long as we're discussing time shenanigans, I'd like to say that I suspect that gratitude is a reasonable starting point for retroactive prayer, though obviously you can only do this in the straightforward form of "gratitude" in the lines where the prayer was fulfilled. (Otherwise it would have to be counterfactual gratitude or something. And/or gratitude for what one does have in the line that is instead instant for oneself. Hard to say what would be good to try, really.)
OTOH, maybe people taking things for granted is an important element of a natural system of limits on how otherwise people might not know when to stop retroactively "praying", or might do so for the wrong things.
