Magic is the art and science of causing changes in consciousness in accordance with will -- that's Dion Fortune's definition; it works with the mind-side of things, and is wholly subject to the ordinary laws of nature. Thus you can make yourself successful, happy, and wise through magic, but you can't regrow a severed limb.
