Seriously, I don't know of a specific term for such people, but it's a known phenomenon. In every society there's a majority who cling to the status quo and a minority who stray off in various directions. When the status quo becomes hopelessly dysfunctional, the minority on the fringe becomes crucially important, as they're the ones who have the chance to find their way to some more productive path.
