There's no doubt in my mind that population "control" of some sort is a driving factor for the elites. Reduce population and it solves many problems. Not a polite topic, but there it is. The medical solutions of euthanasia and eugenics is making a comeback in popularity, IMHO.
I believe it's fairly common for sociopaths to suffer from a "God Complex", and we have plenty of sociopaths in leadership roles. Solving big problems related to Overshoot sure seems like something that would attract a "God", or one who believes they are as powerful as a God.
